Philanthropic Impact

Philanthropy has strengthened our community in countless ways. It has fueled pioneering research, supported outstanding teaching, and enabled brilliant students from around the world to train for public health leadership in Boston.

Donors propel our work.

Philanthropy has strengthened our community in countless ways, enabling us to bring world leaders to campus to mentor students; celebrate teaching excellence with annual awards; and establish research centers at the cutting edge of scientific inquiry on topics ranging from molecular metabolism to mindfulness

Gifts to support financial aid allow more bright, ambitious, and deserving students from around the world to train at Harvard Chan School. Gifts to support our faculty free them to pursue breakthrough discoveries and high-impact collaborations.

This is our ecosystem of impact.

It’s that ripple effect that makes the world a better place.

A transformational gift

In 2014, the School received a transformational, unrestricted gift of $350 million from alumnus Gerald L. Chan, SM ’75, SD ’79, his family, and The Morningside Foundation in memory of his father, Mr. T.H. Chan. In recognition of this extraordinary generosity, the School was renamed the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The Chan family’s gift to the endowment continues to support research, education, and financial aid, among other priorities.
