In the case of Ottoman clothing history, our limited information about the clothes of Ottoman sultans is based primarily on the studies of the Topkapı Palace Museum Clothing Collection which contain entries about the dresses of sultans and other members of Ottoman dynasty. These studies usually focus on the fabrics and ornaments of sultanic clothes, especially kaftans. However, it is certain that Ottoman sultans had a wide range of inner and outer clothes. A register containing the list of Sultan Murad IV's clothes on the Revan campaign confirms this observation. Based on the examination of this list, the article scrutinizes some features of these clothes such as type of fabrics, furs and variety of colors.

Revenues of Athens and surrounding lands which were part of Haremeyn-i Şerifeyn Wakfs were collected by mukataa in the last quarter of the 18th century. Haseki Hadji Ali Agha was for twenty years (1775-1795) on-and-off ruler mukataa of Athens. According to a contemporary Greek historian, Haseki Ali Ağa was born in Anatolia, trained in Enderun and became haseki ağa during the Abdulhamid I’s reign. In 1775, he was appointed voyvoda of Athens and surrounding lands with joint malikane contract. He was the administrator of Athens and surrounding lands during two decades and one of his major achievements was the construction of Athens’ city walls against Albanian threat. However, a number of Ottoman sources describe him as “unafraid of bribing”. Disturbed by his oppressive administration, people of the region frequently reported him to Istanbul. Despite of these reports he hold his position for a period but in 1795 he was arrested and confined in İstanköy fortress as a result of complaints expressed by some Athenians in Istanbul. In December 1795, he was executed and his wealth was confiscated.
This article, based on documents from Ottoman state archives and a number of chronicles in Turkish and in Greek languages, aims to examine Ali Ağa’s career as a voyvoda.
