The vegetation is much rich and some of the alliance (Acacia raddiano and Lycium shuwaii) are trees or shrubs. This is newly recorded for the Egyptian desert. Four communities were identified according to the physiographic factors which seem to be the determining factors of the vegetation. These communities are: alliance of Zygo-pli~llrtm simplex, association of Z,vgophj.llum coccineum-Ochradenrrs baccatirs, association of Stipogrostis phmosa-Forsskalea renncissimo. and association of Aristirlu jirniculuta-Lorrrs desrrti.

It focuses on 12 taxa belonging to 10 species of this genus. The achene wall anatomy and surface sculpturing of those taxa were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Important aspects of the investigated taxa based on the achene characters as well as SEM micrographs of the achene surface and anatomical sections are given. Main and secondary costa of the inner achenes are used for easy differentiation between L. intybacea and L. massauensis

No worldwide taxonomic studies for the whole genus have been produced since the monograph of Brand (1898). A comprehensive taxonomic revision of the genus is needed (Degtjareva et al., 2006). In Egypt, Lotus L. is represented by 18 taxa (Boulos, 2009). The species of Lotus constitute complexes of closely related groups with similar vegetative characters, including seasonal polymorphisms (Heyn, 1970), and it is difficult to distinguish among the species (Ojeda et al., 2009). Several studies have demonstrated the use of micromorphological characters to differentiate between some taxa

Taxonomic diversity of 10 taxa belonging to 8 species and 2 subspecies of Launaea Cass. is provided using morphological criteria concerned with vegetative and reproductive organs in addition to FTIR spectroscopy. Ecofriendly silver nanoparticles were synthesized from Launaea's capitula extract and characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. NTSYS-pc software was used in order to analyze the data of FTIR spectroscopy and morphological characters. FTIR technique was used to recognize the functional groups of the active compound according to the peak value in Infrared radiation region. Cluster analysis based on FTIR data divided the ten studied taxa into three major groups; the first group comprises the four species of sect. Microrhynchus (L. nudicaulis, L. intybacea and L. massauensis) and sect. Launaea (L. capitata), the second group comprises the four subspecies of L. angustifolia and L. fragilis; the third group comprises the two-allied species (L. mucronata and L. cassiniana). FTIR technique found to be a rapid and accurate method for differentiating between Launaea taxa under investigation.

Kuntze is a new recorded. One new combination "L. fragilis subsp. tenuiloba (Boiss.) Zareh & Mohamed" is made. Achene diversity of the studied taxa of Launaea was studied using light and scanning electron microscopy. The taxonomic relationships between the studied taxa were discussed as well as SEM micrographs of achenes are provided. Synonyms and key for the identification of the investigated taxa based on morphological characters as well as notes on distribution are provided.
