A tilt rotor VTOL UAV in tri-copter configuration is developed. The vehicle is modeled using the ... more A tilt rotor VTOL UAV in tri-copter configuration is developed. The vehicle is modeled using the blade element formulation for the propulsion system, and the aerodynamic properties are obtained from a 3D panel code. Linear quadratic regulators and linear quadratic tracking controllers are designed for the attitude control of the aircraft in vertical takeoff and hover flight conditions. The vehicle is built and hover flight tests are carried out. The results demonstrate the success of the modeling carried out and the controller designed.

All rights reserved.In this paper, isolated rotor noise validation and identification of full helicopter BVI noise are performed by a recently developed aerodynamic noise calculation code TACO. TACO results are compared and validated with PSU-WOPWOP which is a widely known aerodynamic noise calculation tool and HART-II wind tunnel test data. Time dependent pressure and blade position data required by the acoustic codes are generated with CHARM using full helicopter trim approach. Hovering flight acoustic characteristics from various observer locations are estimated with TACO and compared with results of PSU-WOPWOP. Finally, CHARM full helicopter trim option is utilized with TACO to study Blade-Vortex Interaction dominated flight condition acoustic characteristics
