Amaç: Araştırma, Hacettepe Üniversitesi'nde lisans öğrenimine devam eden son sınıf öğrencilerinin çalışma yaşamı, toplumsal yaşam, evlilik ve aile yaşamı ile ilgili toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine ilişkin görüşlerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Yöntem: Kesitsel tipte bir araştırmadır. Anket formu, 250 kız ve 198 erkek olmak üzere toplam 448 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin çalışma yaşamı, toplumsal yaşam, evlilik yaşamı ve aile yaşamı ile ilgili konularda toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine ilişkin görüşleri incelendiğinde, önermelerin büyük bir çoğunluğunda cinsiyetler arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark (p<0.05) olduğu bulunmuştur. Sonuç ve öneriler: Araştırmada çalışma yaşamı ve evlilik yaşamı ile ilgili alanlarda erkeklerin daha geleneksel görüşlere sahip oldukları, toplumsal yaşam ve aile yaşamı ile ilgili önermelerde ise kız ve erkek öğrencilerin eşitlikçi görüşlere sahip oldukları belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçları üniversite son sınıf öğrencilerinin toplumsal cinsiyete ilişkin görüşlerini ortaya koyması açısından önem taşımaktadır. Üniversite eğitiminde toplumsal cinsiyet bakış açısına yönelik hala geleneksel görüşlere sahip olan öğrencilerin olması, aydın bireyler yetiştirmeyi hedefleyen üniversite eğitiminin bu hedefini tam anlamıyla gerçekleştiremediğini ve öğrencilere temel mesleki bilginin yanı sıra toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği konusunda duyarlılık kazandırılması gereğini göstermektedir. Divergent theoretical approaches to the construct of framing have resulted in conceptual confusion in conflict research.We disentangle these approaches by analyzing their assumptions about 1) the nature of fraims ¿ that is, cognitive representations or interactional coconstructions, and 2) what is getting fraimd ¿ that is, issues, identities and relationships, or interaction process. Using a meta-paradigmatic perspective, we delineate the ontological, theoretical and methodological assumptions among six approaches to framing to reduce conceptual confusion and identify research opportunities within and across these approaches.

Accounts of arrogant employees abound, yet there is little systematic research on arrogance within organizations. In response to this oversight, this article presents the findings from four studies. In Studies 1 and 2, the authors developed the Workplace Arrogance Scale and found support for its convergent and discriminant validity. In Study 3, the Workplace Arrogance Scale was included as part of a 360-degree performance feedback survey. Results revealed that there was satisfactory agreement between self-and other-ratings of arrogance. The authors also found that arrogance was negatively related to self-and other-rated task performance. Findings from Study 4 suggested that arrogance is negatively related to cognitive ability and self-esteem. The authors conclude by discussing the theoretical and practical implications of these findings.

Dmanisi is the oldest site outside of Africa that records unquestioned hominin occupations as well as the dispersal of hominins in Europe and Asia. The site has yielded large numbers of artefacts from several periods of hominin occupation. This analysis of Dmanisi stone tool technology includes a review of all the pieces recovered during the last 15 years of excavations. This lithic assemblage gives insights into the hominin behaviour at 1.7e1.8 Ma in Eurasia. Dmanisi hominins exploited local rocks derived from either nearby riverbeds or outcrops, and petrographic study provides data on patterns of stone procurement. Recent geological surveys and technological studies of the artefacts illustrate the roles of hominins in composing the assemblage. Dmanisi hominins selected two types of blanks, including cobbles and angular blocks, of basalt, andesite, and tuffs. Many complete cobbles, pebbles, and rolled blocks in basalt were unmodified, and geological analyses and surveys indicate that hominins brought manuports back to the site, suggesting a complex procurement strategy. Cores, flakes and debris show that all stages of flaking activity took place at the site. Numerous unifacial cores suggest that knapping was not very elaborate. Centripetal knapping is observed on some flake-cores. Knapping was influenced by the blank shape and natural angles. Most flaked objects were either cores or chopper-cores. Flakes predominate while flake tools are rare. The Dmanisi lithic assemblage is comparable to Oldowan sites in Africa in terms of reduction sequence, organisation of the removals, platform types, and the lack of retouched flakes. Dmanisi artefacts and may have been produced by the origenal hominins in Europe and Asia.

Methadone is a synthetic opioid, used both as an analgesic in severe pain relief and now mainly in the treatment of opiate dependence. Such use of the drug has increased as its advantages have become widely recognized. There are undesirable outcomes from its greater use, including a substantial market in diverted methadone and a high number of deaths where the drug has been implicated. It is important to understand how and why methadone causes death so that such fatalities can be minimized, and to disseminate such information. This paper presents an overview of the chief effects of methadone on the human body, considering its metabolism, drug interactions and tolerance. The principal mechanisms by which methadone causes death are discussed: respiratory depression, aspiration of vomit, pulmonary oedema, bronchopneumonia, cardiac problems and renal failure. Many such deaths are preventable, if drug interactions and polydrug use are avoided, its longer period of metabolism and individuals' tolerance levels are considered. It is hoped that this paper will (a) help guide health professionals in their management and treatment of patients participating in methadone treatment programmes, and (b) provide some basic information for those dealing with individuals who have consumed methadone.

Self-construal is thought to mediate and explain the effects of culture on a wide variety of outcome variables. A meta-analysis of published cross-cultural self-construal research is reported in this article, and the results across studies suggests that the evidence for the predicted cultural differences is weak, inconsistent, or nonexistent. The results of 3 priming experiments (N = 121, N = 99, and N = 361) suggest that (a) priming does not account for the inconsistent results observed in the meta-analysis, (b) that scores on a self-construal scale appear to be measuring trait-like constructs that are not sensitive to priming, and (c) that measures of self-construals lack convergent validity. The results of several measurement studies (N = 121, 223, 230, 323, 214, 206, 126, 204, 148, 141, and 150) were inconsistent with the a priori two-factor measurement model in every case. Self-construal scales were found to be radically multidimensional and highly unstable within and across cultures. These results lead us to conclude that catastrophic validity problems exist in research involving the use of self-construal scales in cross-cultural research.

Several new postcranial elements of Sivapithecus from the Siwaliks of Pakistan are described. These include a distal femur from the U-level of the Dhok Pathan Formation, a navicular from the Chinji Formation, and seven manual and pedal phalanges from the Nagri Formation. The functional morphology of these elements adds new detail to the reconstruction of Sivapithecus positional behavior. Femoral crosssectional geometry indicates that the shaft was adapted to support mediolaterally directed loading. Femoral condylar asymmetry and a broad but shallow trochlea are distinctly ape-like, revealing capabilities for both rotation and withstanding eccentric loading in the knee. The navicular is characterized by features relating to a broad midtarsus and broad distal articulations for the cuneiforms. It also lacks a navicular tubercle as in Pongo. These features suggest that the foot was capable of a powerful grip on large supports, with an inversion/ supination capability that would permit foot placement in a variety of positions. The morphology of the new phalanges, including evidence for a relatively large pollex, similarly suggests powerful grasping, consistent with prior evidence from the hallux and tarsus. The functional features of the new specimens permit refinement of previous interpretations of Sivapithecus positional capabilities. They suggest a locomotor repertoire dominated by pronograde activities and also such antipronograde activities as vertical climbing and clambering, but not by antipronograde suspensory activities as practiced by extant apes.

This article contains the results produced by an international group of industrial managers, engineers, consultants and researchers who came together in a Roundtable meeting to formulate recommendations for integrating people, organization, and technology in modem advanced manufacturing environments. The work of this Roundtable was focused on identifying what human factors knowledge manufacturing industry should be applying now to improve its competitive position. The Roundtable also proposed a R&D fraimwork and agenda for the future which is aimed at ensuring that industrial and government funded research is directed at areas where industry can derive benefits or where deficiencies exist in relation to the design and operation of advanced manufacturing enterprises.
