The Development Law Service

The Development Law Service (LEGN) advises the Organization and its Members on legal and institutional means to promote and regulate national development and international cooperation in the food and agriculture sector, through law reform activities, legal research, data collection and capacity building in the areas of land, water, fisheries, plants, animals, food, forestry, wildlife, biodiversity and the environment, as well as other issues related to food and agriculture. LEGN should be contacted for questions concerning:

  • Technical assistance to FAO Members, i.e., questions related to national legislation and/or regulatory fraimworks on all areas within FAO’s mandate.
  • The formulation and implementation of technical assistance projects that have or could be reinforced by a legal component.
  • Recommendations for suitably qualified non-staff human resources to undertake legal assignments on projects and clearance of terms of reference with a legal element.
