April 16th, 2011 Flooding and Tornado Event

Overview

The rain quickly amounted to more than an inch over much of Central PA, and a stripe of 3 to 5 inches of rainfall occurred from Gettysburg up through Harrisburg and Shamokin. The water was too much for the streams and creeks. Flash Flooding created a extremely dangerous situation where up to a dozen water-rescues were made by local rescue personnel. Many businesses and homes were flooded across Southeastern PA. The one tornado occurred just to the west of the City of York, near the West Manchester Mall.

Summary: THE TORNADO FIRST TOUCHED DOWN JUST NORTH OF BROUGHER LANE WHERE DAMAGE TO TREES...WIRES...AND SEVERAL OUT-BUILDINGS OCCURRED. SOME MINOR DAMAGE TO SEVERAL HOMES ALSO OCCURRED IN THIS AREA. THE TORNADO DAMAGED A CANOPY ON A GAS STATION AND TWO BILLBOARDS AT THE CORNER OF CARLISLE ROAD AND BROUGHER LANE AS IT TRAVELED NORTHEAST. AFTER CROSSING CARLISLE ROAD...MORE TREE DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED. A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF A ROOF WAS REMOVED OFF A BUSINESS AND BLOWN ACROSS BROUGHER LANE NEAR HAVILAND ROAD.
