The process of discovery at the College of Health Sciences is not linear, hierarchical, or even predictable. Discovery happens in the classroom and the clinic as often as it does in the laboratory, and high quality health care often originates in the laboratory before it appears in the clinic. This synergistic understanding of discovery, learning and clinical practice characterizes the research at the College of Health Sciences.
Our major areas of focus are aging and frailty, applied nutrition and metabolism, health services, human performance, injury prevention, neuromotor and sensory performance, rehabilitation, and voice and language disorders. In our College, bench scientists, physical therapists, athletic trainers, physician assistants, health service researchers, academicians, and students work together to create new knowledge to solve old problems. The common thread woven throughout our work – whether it is in the classroom, clinic or the laboratory – is the desire to translate our knowledge into practice to improve human health and function.
Undergraduate Research
The Office of Undergraduate Research is committed to fostering the curiosity of undergraduate students, by offering multiple opportunities, across a variety of topics, for mentored, self-directed work.
Research Centers & Institutes
Our research centers and institutes are on the front-line of discovery.
Research Facilities
The College of Health Sciences laboratories house state-of-the-art equipment and are directed by world-class faculty researchers. In addition to our own facilities, researchers have access to UK’s comprehensive core facilities.
Active Studies
Our scholars cultivate an environment that embraces discovery through rigorous research in the laboratory, the classroom, the clinic, and the community.
Jacobson Innovation Fund
Former UK faculty Elaine and Myron Jacobson created a successful business using the research findings from their work at UK. With their success as inspiration, we created a program to promote entrepreneurship among faculty and staff.
