From Proto-Karen *ʔnwetᴰ ~ *ʔnweᴬ (seven) (Luangthongkum, 2019), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-ni-s (seven). Cognate with Eastern Pwo နိုဲ့ (nwê), Pa'o Karen နွိတ်ꩻ.
