Chicago, Ill. – The Duquesne University men's basketball played its first true road game of the 2024-25 season Friday at Wintrust Arena, falling to DePaul, 84-58. The Dukes dipped to 0-3 on the year with the loss.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
DePaul opened the second half by hitting six of its first eight shots from the field, including a 4-for-5 performance from beyond the arc, to turn a 37-31 halftime advantage into a 53-37 lead with 15:09 to play. David Skogman connected for the first triple, while the Blue Demons also got a pair from Jacob Meyer. It was part of a 13-for-25 (52%) performance from international waters for DePaul, which entered the contest averaging 11.3 three-pointers in its first three games of the year. Six different Blue Demons connected from downtown, including a 4-for-6 performance by Isaiah Rivera, who led all scorers in the game with 18 points.
OPENING CONNECTION
Duquesne opened the contest by hitting a quartet of three-pointers in the first seven-and-a-half minutes, including a pair from redshirt sophomore guard
Maximus Edwards. The last of the triples came courtesy of junior forward
Matúš Hronský and gave the Dukes a 16-9 cushion. DePaul would close to within 16-13 before a layup from sophomore
Jake DiMichele, but the Blue Demons answered with an 11-0 run to grab a 26-18 lead. DePaul hit a trio of three-pointers during the surge, including a pair from Conor Enright. Junior guard
Kareem Rozier helped stem the tide with a three-pointer before the Blue Demons entered the break with a 37-31 lead.
MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE
Edwards, who failed to convert a field goal in Duquesne's last game against Princeton as part of the Jersey Jam, rebounded Friday against DePaul. He scored eight points for the Dukes in their opening flurry and reached double figures for the second time in three games with a team-high 13 points. Edwards finished 4-for-7 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Also reaching double figures for Duquesne was DiMichele, who came off the bench for the third consecutive game to open the year and contributed 11 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
