Eric Anish, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and practices general internal medicine and non-operative sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Dr. Anish serves as the Medical Director and Head Team Physician for Duquesne University Athletics and has been involved with the care of Duquesne student-athletes since 2003.
Dr. Anish is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he competed on the cross country and track & field teams. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, followed by an Internal Medicine Residency in Rochester, N.Y., at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Upon serving an additional year as Chief Medical Resident in Rochester, he then completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at UPMC.
In addition to a busy clinical practice that combines both inpatient and outpatient medical care, Dr. Anish serves on the faculty for the UPMC Internal Medicine Residency Program and the UPMC Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. He is also heavily involved with medical student teaching at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was elected to the School of Medicine’s Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators in 2012. Dr. Anish has also been awarded Fellowship in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Anish spent several years working with the United States Olympic Committee Sports Medicine Program and served as a member of the Team USA Medical Staff at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico and the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. He also serves as a medical consultant for the Pittsburgh Public High School athletic programs and for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL).
