MISSION STATEMENT
The Lipscomb University Strength and Conditioning program's mission is to prepare our athletes to achieve the highest level of athletic and personal success. Through a comprehensive program, we aim to reduce the risk of injury and improve speed, strength, and mental toughness. Each athlete is trained year-round with sport-specific programming. Our athletes receive the most advanced instruction in the Strength and Conditioning industry. Working closely with each teams' coaches and athletic trainers, the Strength and Conditioning program is instrumental in helping each athlete be properly prepared to compete at the highest level. Developing leaders and encouraging positive team-dynamics are weaved into the practical application of the most current research findings in the field of Strength and Conditioning.
Our newly renovated weight room is on campus and features a $500,000 project by PLAE design with 16 Lipscomb branded power racks equipped with everything needed for all strength training needs
John Hudy - MS, RSCC*D, CSCS, USAW
Head Strength Coach
John Hudy has been a fixture of the the Lipscomb University athletic staff for more than two decades. He serves as the Director of the Strength and Conditioning program overseeing 17 sports. He directly works with both Men's and Women's Basketball, as well as Men's and Women's Golf.
He has been an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) since 2000. In 2011 he received the Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC*D) designation which shows coaches have at least 10 years of experience in their field. He is also certified coach by United States Weightlifting Association (USAW) and Titleist Performance Institute (Level I).
John graduated from Lipscomb University in 1988 and earned a MS degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1992. Heand his wife Annette have one daughter, Alanna.
Sean johnson
Assistant Strength Coach
Sean Johnson joined the Lipscomb Athletics staff as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach the spring of 2016. He will be working full time with both the women's soccer and volleyball programs while also helping out in other areas as needed.
A native of Senatobia, Mississppi, Sean earned both his Bachelors (2009) and Masters (2010) of Science from Mississippi State University.
Upon graduation, Sean began his career as a Strength and Conditioning coach in baseball's minor league circuit where, for the next five years, he worked for the Atlanta Braves and the St Louis Cardinals organizations. He is certified by the National Strength & Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach and also obtained a higher certification in the strength field by getting his Registered Strength & Conditioning Coach certification.
Sean is married to the former Hannah Disterdick. The two met while he was working with the Memphis Redbirds in Memphis, Tennessee. They got married two years later on July 4th atop Lookout Mountain in Hannah's hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
