Clara Martner was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1995. She received a first-class honors degree in Law from Universidad de Chile. During her years of study, she performed as a teaching assistant for courses in Introductory Law, Legal History, Administrative Law, and Criminal Law. Before coming to Yale Law School, Clara was an instructor in Criminal Law at Universidad de Chile and Universidad Diego Portales and has participated in many academic research projects. She served as the Student Union vice president of her university. After finishing her undergraduate studies, Clara served as a legal consultant at the Constitutional Convention of her country. In addition to her academic duties, she worked as a public defender at the Defensoría Penal Pública (the Public Criminal Defense Office).  She recently got her LL.M. degree from Yale Law School, where she worked on topics of moral luck and criminal procedure, as well as legitimacy problems in the context of constitutional change. She has a broad interest in criminal law and legal theory. She is now exploring what it means for people to be treated fairly when facing criminal proceedings.
