Transparency, fairness, accountability, and equity are critical to good governance. MacMillan scholars examine debates over governance and representative institutions to understand what has been effective in the past and consider models that may be applicable for the environmental, political, and social challenges of our world today. Some of our programs and affiliates consider how societies and thinkers have addressed governance challenges through the ages, while others are intended to inspire replicable and scalable change today.
