A funding opportunity for early career faculty in the social sciences and STEM outside of NCAR's core expertise to co-develop interdisciplinary research projects in partnership with scientists and engineers at NCAR. The program funds faculty (with a grad student) for two years.
The Advanced Study Program (ASP) offers graduate students an excellent way to spend time at NCAR and work on parts of their thesis, or final project equivalent, with guidance from NCAR scientists and engineers.
The Atmospheric Chemistry Observations & Modeling (ACOM) lab focuses on advancing understanding and predictive capability for atmospheric composition and related processes. Research is organized around air quality prediction and weather-chemistry-climate interactions.
The Computational & Information Systems Lab (CISL) invites applications for collaboration in HPC services, research, and education, including computational mathematics, data assimilation, scientific visualization, high-performance networking, data curation, and more.
The Climate & Global Dynamics (CGD) lab hosts collaborative research visits focusing on understanding and modeling the Earth system, and on applying that knowledge to scientific problems of societal relevance.
Scientists and engineers collaborate on a variety of projects in the Earth Observing Lab (EOL), which provides leadership in observing facilities and field project support, as well as research and data services needed to advance the scientific understanding of the Earth system.
The High Altitude Observatory (HAO) focuses on the study of the coupled Sun-Earth system (the solar atmosphere, the heliosphere, and Earth's upper atmosphere, ionosphere, and magnetosphere) through theory, modeling, observations, and instrument development.
The Mesoscale & Microscale Meteorology (MMM) lab hosts a variety of national and international visitors for collaboration on topics relevant to the lab's focus on understanding of the meso- and microscale aspects of weather and climate.
The Research Applications Lab (RAL) conducts directed research in five areas: aviation, national security (finescale weather, turbulence, diffusion), hydrometeorology (hydrology, cloud physics), weather systems and assessment, and numerical weather prediction testing/evaluation.
This program supports visitors to work with the DTC to test new forecasting and verification techniques, models, and model components for numerical weather prediction.
UCAR hosts visitors in its COSMIC program (Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate) as well as through opportunities that UCAR facilitates at other institutions.
