In medieval and Renaissance Europe, dining together was often a display of trust and goodwill. Keeping hands visible ensured that diners were not concealing weapons such as knives or daggers. 😳

While the direct threat of concealed weapons may have diminished in modern times, the traditions persists as a cultural norm that reflects values of trust and honesty.
