Education
“As a product of public education, I believe in the power of education to lift us up and provide us with opportunities to realize our dreams and contribute to our communities. To ensure a free, culturally competent, high quality education is accessible to every child and young person in this country, we must forgive student debt, address the rising cost of college, and fully fund our public schools, including universal early childhood education.”
Congresswoman Ramirez believes every student in our community should have an accessible, culturally competent, high-quality education, not forced to choose between paying rent, accessing healthcare, eating nutritious meals, and pursuing higher education. Ramirez is clear we must fight to make higher education free and equitably accessible for all. Until that future is realized, Congresswoman Ramirez is committed to continue fighting for student loan debt forgiveness. Representative Ramirez joined 85 of her colleagues in a letter to President Biden, urging him to swiftly deliver on his promise to deliver student debt cancellation to working and middle class families.
Congresswoman Ramirez believes we must resist any and all cuts to early learning programs and invest in child care funding to support families, children, and essential childcare workers. She is a proud supporter of programs like Head Start and a cosponsor of bills like the Child Care Stabilization Act, the Expanding Child Care Access Act of 2024, and Ramirez believes we must ensure affordable, high-quality, and reliable child care and early learning programs are accessible to all families!
Congresswoman Ramirez believes every community should have the necessary resources to ensure safe, resilient, high-quality schools. That’s why Ramirez is a proud cosponsor of bills like H.R. 5784, The Green New Deal for Public Schools, that aims to invest $1.6 trillion over 10 years in our public education system to combat climate change, meet the holistic needs of students, families, and communities, and transform our public school infrastructure into a healthy, safe, comfortable learning environment for everyone.
As a proud graduate of Northeastern Illinois University—the longest-standing four-year public Hispanic-serving institution in the Midwest—Congresswoman Ramirez understands the importance of investing in colleges and universities that amplify and support the experiences of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people. Further, Ramirez recognizes the struggles first-generation and undocumented students face and believes that education is a tool that can lead to equity, empowerment, and economic liberation. That’s why she is proud to co-lead bills like the AmeriCorps Access for Dreamers Act to expand education award opportunities and pathways into national service for Dreamers in our nation. Congresswoman Ramirez has presented amendments to provide, protect and expand funding to schools that support students of color.
