The UK Markey Cancer Center is dedicated to providing the best possible health care to our cancer patients. From diagnosis to support during and after treatment, our team always strives to find the best road to recovery for our patients and their families. To extend that support across the region, the Markey Cancer Center and Lexington Clinic collaborate to provide access to physicians, technology and clinical trials. 

Under this collaboration, there are two locations: Markey Cancer Center at Lexington Clinic in Lexington and Richmond. Both clinics are hospital-based departments of the University of Kentucky Hospital. You can visit our hospital-based clinics webpage to learn about this type of clinic.

What is the collaboration?

Under the collaboration, Markey Cancer Center at Lexington Clinic in Lexington includes medical oncology and chemotherapy services. The radiation therapy, medical oncology and chemotherapy services in Richmond are also delivered in coordination with the UK Markey Cancer Center. UK HealthCare is the clinical enterprise for the university.

How does the collaboration help you?

Markey Cancer Center at Lexington Clinic further strengthens Lexington Clinic’s commitment to perfecting the patient experience. UK Markey Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center in Kentucky and one of fewer than 60 across the nation. Under this collaboration, patients benefit from enhanced specialty pharmacy services, supportive treatment services, clinical trials and more. 

Will I keep my same doctor?

For patients receiving care at the Markey Cancer Center at Lexington Clinic, your providers will remain the same throughout the duration of your care. If you are eligible for advanced cancer care and/or clinical trials, you may need to receive that treatment on the UK campus. For those patients receiving care on UK’s campus, your medical oncologist may still be a part of your treatment plan and will oversee and monitor your treatments.

Is my insurance accepted?

Markey Cancer Center at Lexington Clinic will work to treat any and all patients, regardless of their insurance coverage. For specific questions related to your insurance, please call (859) 258-6535 or visit our accepted insurances webpage for more information.

What is the referral process for physicians?

The Markey Cancer Center at Lexington Clinic collaboration is ultimately about providing the best possible care for our patients, including those who you refer. Through this collaboration, patients will have increased access to advanced cancer treatments and a continuum of care that they require, such as specialty pharmacy services, and expanded network of support services and research-based clinical trials for those who qualify.
