Animal Program Resources

This section contains resources for all Animal Program participants, including Animal Program Officers, Institutional Liaisons (ILs), Institutional Representatives (IRs), Animal Program Advisors, Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) members, and anyone interested in becoming involved in Animal Programs. Animal Programs Database - Login required for TAG, SSP, and Studbook contact information and documents.
The Animal Programs Database includes general information about AZA's Taxon Advisory Groups (TAGs), Species Survival Plan® (SSP) Programs, Studbooks, as well  Program Leader, Officer, IR, and Advisor contact information. Documents such as TAG Regional Collection Plans (RCPs), SSP Breeding and Transfer Plans, Studbooks, Global Species Management Plans (GSMPs), MateRx's, and Population Viability Analyses (PVAs) are also found in the Animal Programs Database.

SSP Framework Resources- Login required
The Animal Population Management (APM) Committee is working diligently to address the sustainability crisis of animal populations within AZA. As a result, the APM Committee has designed a new SSP framework that was fully implemented in 2023.  This page is dedicated to distributing  resources for the SSP Framework to the AZA community and to support program leaders assessing their programs for SSP eligibility.

The Animal Program Sustainability Designations is the complete list of SSPs. This document is updated quarterly on the website.

Animal Programs Monthly Update
The Animal Programs Monthly Update includes Animal Program announcements, announcements from the AZA office, new Program Leaders, new Program Leader vacancies, and new Animal Program publications including RCPs, SSP Breeding and Transfer Plans, Studbooks, GSMPs, MateRx's, PVAs, and Animal Care Manuals.

Dedicated Funds
This page provides information for the management of an AZA Dedicated Fund. A Dedicated Fund is designed to hold and distribute monies raised specifically to support projects initiated or coordinated by an AZA Animal Program or SAFE Species Program.
