About this ebook
Mary H. Davitt
Mary H. Davitt, daughter of Frank and Mary George, was born in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. After graduating from Loretto Academy, Niagara Falls, Ontario, she attended D’Youville College, Buffalo, New York, where she received a bachelor’s degree in English and education. Subsequently, after some experience in the merchandising field, she taught high school English in Ripley, New York, and at Bishop McMahon Diocesan High School in Buffalo while pursuing graduate studies at Canisius College. In 1955, Mary married J. Alan Davitt; in 1967, Mary, Alan, and their five children (George, Alan, Mary, Dan, Mark) moved to Albany, New York. There she raised her six children (John being born in 1971) while teaching religious education at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Delmar, New York, serving on its parish council as lector and eucharistic minister and as president of its Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity for over thirty years and served as their president from 1996 to 1997. She also enjoyed many years as an active member of the Delmar Progress Club and the Vanguard Albany Symphony. Mary, an avid reader of poetry, is a published poet in her own right. Though she loves gardening, gourmet cooking, and photography, she now spends most of her time with her children and grandchildren. The most important thing in her life is her family. She would do anything to bring them joy and peace. Faith, family, and good friends have made life beautiful for her.

Dedication
This book is dedicated to my mother and father,
Mary and Frank George,
for whom nothing was too difficult and
whose love for me was never ending.
To my six children,
George, Alan, Mary, Dan, Mark and John,
who gave my life meaning and purpose
and whom I cherish every day.
To my fifteen grandchildren,
Caroline, Sam, Alana, Sean, Daniel, Josh, Andrew,
Megan, Christopher, Kaitlin, Brendan,
Emma, Isabella, Kate and Will,
who have given me joy and laughter.
And, finally to my husband, J. Alan Davitt,
with whom I shared my life for over 50 years.
I was blessed with a life partner, friend,
lover and soulmate. I miss you, Alan.
Foreword
When I was a little girl, I always wanted to teach and so I did.
When I finished college, the happiest day of my life was when I got married - and after that when I had George - and then Alan, and then Mary, and then Danny, and then Mark, and then John (at age 41).
Each day brought joy, as well as troubles. Life is difficult but, when you have a good husband and great kids, life’s difficulties are eased. Love makes it
