History Working Group

At the beginning of 2017, a group of Members of the Institute for Advanced Study decided to form a History Working Group to explore the past and present of the Institute for Advanced Study. It was initially a response to the Trump Administration’s Executive Order of January 27, 2017, which banned travel and immigration to the United States from seven predominantly Muslim countries. The intention was to show how the Institute had been involved since its inception in the question of displaced scholars, and would continue to be. After the publication of the volume A Refuge for Scholars and the curating of the companion exhibit, the activity of the History Working Group expanded its purview to include research on new topics and with new Members. Their works are gathered here.
