Monumenta Musicae Byzantinae

A CARSTEN HØEG CONDITA

Founded in 1931 by Carsten Høeg (1896-1961), H. J. W. Tillyard (1881-1968), and Egon Wellesz (1885-1974), the MMB project gained international support from the Union Académique Internationale in 1933 with the aim to develop Byzantine chant studies and the accessibility to manuscript sources. After a period of preparation, the editorial activities began in 1935 under the direction of Carsten Høeg. Since then, the University of Copenhagen has housed research and publishing activities in the field of Byzantine chant, the project currently being affiliated with the Faculty of Theology, Church History Section.

The MMB is governed by an editorial board and administered by a national committee under the auspices of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters in collaboration with Comitato Italiano per l'edizione e lo studio delle Fonti Musicali Bizantine (CIFMB) under the Accademia Nazionale di Scienze, Lettere e Arti (Palermo).
