Problem # 1: Determine the equilibrium torsional capacity of the following sections if no torsional reinforcing is used.

Use: f'c =4000 psi, and fy=60,000 psi, and normal weight concrete.

Problem # 2: What minimum total theoretical depth is needed for the beam shown if no torsional reinforcing is to be used? Assume the cross section is rectangular with b = 20 in., and depth to be determined. The concentrated load is located at the end of the cantilever 8 in. to one side of the beam centerline. Use: f'c =4000 psi, and fy=60,000 psi, and lightweight concrete.

Problem # 3: Is the beam shown satisfactory to resist Tu of 15 ft.K and a Vu of 60 Kips if f'c =4000 psi, and fy=60,000 psi, and normal weight concrete. The bars shown are used in addition to those provided for bending moment.

Problem # 4: Determine stirrups spacing distance d from support for the beam shown if the load is acting 100 mm off center of the beam. Assume the torsion at the support equals the uniform load times 100 mm, f'c =28 MPa, and fy=420 MPa,Use #13 stirrups and assume that the torsion and the shear vary from a maximum at the support to 0 at the beam centerline. Clear cover = 40 mm.

Problem # 5: Design the torsional reinforcement for the beam shown in the accompanying figure at a section a distance d from the face of the support for a torsional moment of 24 ft-kips, Vu= 90 kips, f'c =3000 psi, and fy=60,000 psi, Clear cover = 1.5 in. Use #4 stirrups.

Problem # 6: Create EXCEL spreadsheet that design the torsional reinforcement for the beam shown in Problem # 5 for both U. S. customary and S.I. units?
