fi
--MYOLOGY
 Embryonic origin: mesoderm
- all voluntary or skeletal muscles are derived from the epimere of the mesoderm, except
the branchiomeric muscle (fm. the hypomere of the mesoderm)
- all involuntary muscles (including: heart & lungs) are derived fm. the splanchnic
mesoderm of the hypomere

--PROPERTIES OF MUSCLES
1. Excitability
- action potentials
2. Conductivity
3. Contractility
- isometric contraction (the muscle remains the same length)
- isotonic contraction (the tension in the muscle remains constant despite a change in
muscle length)
4. Extensibility - extent to w/c a material can be stretched w/o causing it to tear or break
5. Elasticity – physical property of material that returns to its original shape after the stress that
made it deform is removed.
