Measurement of Carbon Monoxide in ambient air

Specification IS: 5182 Part X

Principle:
Air samples containing carbon monoxide in the range 0-100 mg/m 3 are collected in
tedlar bag and analysed on the Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) absorption gas
analyser. It is an electro-optical spectrophotometer with no spectral dispersion
component.
Apparatus:
CO Analyzer model CO APMA-370 make Horiba . It consists IR detector consisting of
separated by optical cells through samples flows, whereby the specific spectral
absorption of the component of interest is determined.
Testing arrangements include pump, flow meter, filter for elimination of particulate
matter and moisture trap, optical filters for elimination of carbon dioxide(upto 2%)
Detection limit: detection limit is 0.1 ppm
Mode of operation:
1. Warm up: No readings shall be taken until the instrument has reached steady
temperature conditions and is giving a steady response. This shall not be
more than 6 hr.
2. Continuous analysis.
3. Discrete Samples: whole system should be thoroughly flushed with the
sample
