    You are to carry out preparation work including visual work and notes to
    explain your ideas and prove your knowledge and understanding and
    produce a personal and informed final image.
    Your work will be marked on how well you:
    Record observations and ideas (AO3)
    Analyse and evaluate images/artists work (AO1)
    Develop & explore ideas (AO1)
    Use a range of materials & techniques (AO2)

    Kaleidoscope: Power and Politics
    Zofia Kulik has produced composite photographs that use repeated
    images to make patterns. Alvin Langdon Coburn produced images with
    repeated patterns, which he called Vortographs, by directing the
    camera down onto angled mirrors.
    After studying the work of these and other relevant photographers, use
    any appropriate technology to produce your own photographs which
    explore kaleidoscopic effects.



    Preparation work:

    Researching and exploring the nature of kaleidoscope.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:


    One
    page
    visually
    mind-mapping
    examples
    of
    kaleidoscopic imagery. Add a definition and keywords to
    describe the main features of the imagery.
    Using the available mirrors, lenses and kaleidoscopes
    conduct an experimental photo shoot- take at least twenty
    different kaleidoscopic images. Printout the contact sheet
    for your journal- select 2-4 of your best images to edit print
    out bigger.
    Make your own kaleidoscope recording some of the
    images made through the changing shapes of the
    kaleidoscope.
    Experiment with a variety other of ways to make an image
    appear kaleidoscopic: collage, device apps, Photoshop.
    Record these in your journal adding screen shots where
    appropriate.

    Artist Research and Recreations (AO1 and AO2)


    Research and analyse the work of Zofia Kulik, Alvin Langdon Coburn and
    your own chosen kaleidoscope artist looking in detail at how they use
    kaleidoscopic effects in their work and identifying any other issues
    addressed through their photography.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
    One research sheet on Zofia Kulik and her work. To include
    images, information and keywords along with analysis of a
    chosen image.
    One research sheet on Alvin Langdon Coburn and his
    work. To include images, information and keywords along
    with analysis of a chosen image
    Two recreation pages exploring Kuliks and Coburns work
    using a range of photographic techniques. Add
    screenshots if appropriate to show your process.
    One sheet on your chosen kaleidoscope artist. To include
    images, information and keywords along with analysis of a
    chosen image
    One page or more exploring your chosen kaleidoscope
    artists work using a range of photographic techniques:

    WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:


    One page visually mind-mapping the theme of power and
    politics. Add a definition and keywords to describe all of
    your ideas.
    Create a potential list of ideas of objects, places/people for
    a photoshoot thinking about things that you can source to
    photograph that relate to the theme of power and politics
    Plan and conduct a photoshoot of images relating to
    power and politics. Add a photoshoot plan to your journal
    and your contact sheet/s.

    Explore chosen themes through photography techniques.
    WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
    Experiment digitally with at least six different ideas and
    objects exploring both Kuliks, Coburns and your chosen
    artists style, you may use collage and/or digital
    manipulation
    Annotate all of your experiments describing what you
    have done and how the imagery relates to both the
    photographer and the themes of kaleidoscope and
    power and politics.
    Based on your work so far produce at least three initial ideas
    for your final piece, sketch and annotate.

    WEEK FOUR: Final Idea (AO1 and AO4)


    Finalise ideas making clear reference to your chosen theme.
    WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
    Produce a detailed final composition: exactly what your
    piece will look like. Dont forget notes to explain what youre
    doing step by step and in particular explain how your work
    connects with both Kulik and Coburn and your chosen artist
    and the themes of power and politics.
    Take any additional photographs and develop in
    preparation for use/development during the final image
    creation process. Add contact sheet to your journal.
    Plan for the creation of the final image, what you will need,
    how long parts will take etc (you have 2 weeks to make your
    image)

    WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
    Create final piece. Remember to record your process using
    screenshots and explain any changes you make along the
    way and give reasons why- record this in your journal.

    This plan is just a guide to the order in which your work should be
    created and added to your journal. You can add in extra pages as
    needed dependant upon how much work you generate. These
