Mode of operation
Automatic Service Selection, in its function as a generic service, provides a single code for access to a number of IN services which would normally only be available via a number of different access codes. The service is responsible for generating a new IN service number in order to then establish the connection to the selected service. To activate the service the service user dials a Freephone number specified by the network operator (1). The service logic is located in the Service Control Function (SCF). A new service key is needed to find out the service logic for Automatic Service Selection (2). After analyzing the service key the SCF requests service-specific data via the Service Data Access Function (SDAF) from the Service Data Function (SDF) on the coordination processor (CP) (3). The data necessary for the service is sent to the SCF (4).

The SCF initiates a menu-driven interactive dialog and dials precisely one digit to select the correct menu item. Then a new IN number is created (5). If the service is activated, a new IN number is set up. If errors occur during access to the database, the service user hears an announcement stating that the service is currently not available (6).

Administration
The operator can perform all administration functions on the NetManager by means of user-friendly applications or MML commands. Call charge registration The charges for service usage can be administrated. For information on call charge administration please refer to OMN:EXCH-TA.

Technical Data
The "Automatic Service Selection" service can be created if an internal Service Control Function (SCF) and a Service Data Function (SDF) are available in EWSD.
Hardware for user dialogs Voice Processing Unit (VPU) Operationally Controlled Equipment for Announcement (OCANEQ)

Capacity The list for selecting the services consists of up to nine entries, corresponding to digits 1 to 9. The database is dimensioned for a maximum of 65,535 service subscribers per EWSD network node.

Call charge registration

The service number for Automatic Service Selection can be a Freephone number. For the call sections (selection dialog, further connection to the service) IN AMA data records are created. These can be used in post processing to calculate charges for both the service user and also the service provider.
