Saudi pushes compromise on Bahrain
Saudi Arabia is encouraging the government of its neighbour and ally Bahrain to forge a settlement with its opposition after two years of unrest, in an apparent change of approach by the oil-rich kingdom. In an escalation of Riyadhs behind-the-scenes role, a Saudi politician has for the rst time established direct, informal contact with alWefaq, Bahrains main opposition group which represents the majority Shia. UK minister on mission to help Bahrain


UK Minister for the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region Alistair Burt will visit Bahrain next week. He is ying in for high-level talks on a range of topics, including British support for Bahrain in pushing through reforms recommended by the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) and the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Bahrain Twitter Case Verdict Expected Monday


A verdict in the Twitter case of prominent human rights defender Said Yousif AlMuhafdah of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) is expected on Monday, March 11. Saids prosecution appears to be part of a pattern of judicial harassment and imprisoning of Bahraini

human rights activist, said Human Rights Firsts Brian Dooley. These politicallymotivated charges should immediately be dropped. After he allegedly tweeted about police using birdshot against protesters, Said Yousif was arrested in December 2012 for spreading false information on Twitter.
