Up On Top is a shortpairof warmers/boot toppers knit in worsted weight yarn. Itisaquickand easy knit featuring an easy to memorise cable pattern. The pair uses less than 200 metres of yarnmakingitagreatprojectforthoseoddjusthadtobuyitskeinsmanyofushavestashed. The pictured pair was worked in Spud & Chlos Sweater in Pollen,a lovely cotton wool yarn, andat146mperskein,onlyoneskeinwasrequiredtoknitthepair. Gauge:8stsx9rowsknitin2x2ribon5mmdoublepoints=4cm SandCable C6L Slip next 3 needles onto cableneedle(slippurlwise), holdslippedstitchesinfrontofwork. Knit the next 3 stitches on the left hand needle, knit the3 stitches from cable needle. Continue knittingasperusualfromlefthandneedle. C6R Slip next 3 stitches onto cable needle (slip purlwise) and holdin back of work. Knit the next 3 stitches on left hand needle. Knit the 3 cable needle stitches. Continue knitting as per usualfromlefthandneedle. Of note: I added a fairamountofeasesothatthesecanbewornoverjeans.Thepatternisone size and will fit a 35cm/14 calf comfortably (give or take, mylowercalvesare40cm/16ishand thesearealittletightonme). A cable needle is require but check out Grumperinas tutorial on knitting cables without cable needles.Ihaventtriedthismethod,cableneedlesdontreallybothme.

PATTERN Using 5mm double point needles, cast on 60 stitches and divideover3needles.Join,markend ofround,andwork2x2ribintheroundfor8rounds. Round9:*C6L,knit6*toendofround. Rounds1012:Kniteachstitch. Round13:*knit6,C6R*toendofround. Rounds1416:Knit. Repeatrounds916twicemore. Rounds1724:*K2,P2*toendofround. Bindoffinpattern(2x2rib). LikeIsaid,easypeasy. Note for those wishing to adjust sizing, keep in mind the stitch pattern has a 12 st repeat. Dropping or adding 12 sts would mean a change of 6cm (more than 2.25). More repeats of SandCableorlongerribsectioncanbeaddedforalongerorslouchywarmer.
