PROBLEM

How can teachers teach from home

Our robot can act as a substitute teacher

Our robot has a screen where there can be a video message of a teacher on Skype

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Some problems in current robots teachers are

The faces can be creepy for the kids They are remote controlled They cannot hold things

History of robots

In 1495 Leonardo Da Vinci designed the first humanoid robot Then in 1899 Nikola Tesla makes the first remote controlled machine, a boat. In 1954 George Devol and Joe Engleberger made the first programmable robot claw. In 1989 the first walking robot is created at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) In 1998 LEGO MINDSTORMS come out and the F.L.L. MINDSTROMS robot competition is started South Korea starts employing robot teachers to teach English

PROCEDURE
We will use a computer at school, a Lego mindstorms brick, a Lego mindstorms ultrasonic sensor, a USB cable, and a Lego mindstorm connecter cable, and mindstorms programming Step 1: Connect the mindstorm brick to the computer using a USB cable Step 2: Connect the connecter cable from the brick to the ultrasonic sensor on port 4 Step 3: Open mindstorms program and program it to say hi when something is less than 72 inches away (72 inches is what we are using you might need to use a different number) Step 4: Try it and see if it works

SOLUTION
Our humanoid is called the T.E.A.C.H. Bot, which stands for
Technology Education Academic Communicating Humanoid. It is a humanoid that teaches third grade science. Our procedure is testing if we can activate a computer when someone comes close by to say hi.

Our robot is better than teachers because it will rarely mistakes

It will use the Deep Q&A answering system, which is the answering
system that Watson the super computer uses

It can accesses the internet It has a gigantic memory base T.E.A.C.H. Bot can teach classes faster than teachers

It can accesses the internet It can speak clearly.

CONCLUSION

We learned how to program the robot to turn on and say hi when someone comes near it Ambient sounds can mess up the robots answer so what we could have the students say question every time they have one We will also be using the Deep Q&A answering system The Deep Q&A system makes mistakes Pieces of our robot could be broken The pieces that break can be a hazard Something else we could have done is program it to say more typical words in English speech

RESULTS
Trial 1 Trial 1 was not a success because the distance was too much Trial 2 We reduced the distance and it worked

ABSTRACT
Our goal is to make a robot that could teach kids. So came up with a robot called the T.E.A.C.H. Bot. We wanted to make our robot enjoyable and serious at the same time. We researched about current robots and found that robots with human like faces look scary to people. We also found out that if we used IBMs Watsons question and answer system our robot would rarely get a question incorrect. T.E.A.C.H. Bot can teach classes faster than teachers because it would be able to accesses the internet and it can speak clearly.
