flashes when paper has run out in the selected tray, or the selected
tray is out of position, or when a paper jam occurs.

Functions
When bypass tray is selected to supply paper, the lamp lights.
Pressed after entering passwords to make the machine go into standby.
Used to enter the desired number of copies and job settings.
Pressed to return the machine to the default settings-the same status
as just after turning power on.
The Ready to copy lamp lights and you can make copies.
Pressed to start copying.
Used to suspend an ongoing copy run and allow an urgent job run.
When the interrupt is selected, the lamp lights.
Pressed to stop an ongoing copy run and to change the entered number
of copies.
Flashes to indicate toner is running low.
Lights or flashes to indicate the copy cartridge needs replacing.
Flashes to show the location of document jam.
Displays the number of copies selected, job settings and error codes.
Used to customize features. When the Custom Presets is pressed,
"CUS" is displayed in the Copy Ratio display .
Displays the selected reducelenlarge ratio.
When the "Photo Mode" is selected, the lamp lights.
When the Stapler is selected, the lamp lights. Copies sorted by the
optional 10-bin sorter will be automatically stapled.

Turning the Machine On and Off


You can make copies 35 seconds after turning on the machine. The machine should be
turned off when not operated for a long period of time.

Conventions

This section explains the graphic symbols used throughout the guide.

WARNING Warnings are statements that alert users to the possibility of personal

damage. For example:

CAUTION Cautions are statements that suggest mechanical damage may be the
result of an action. For example:

When cleaning this product, do not use organic solvents or aerosol cleaners.
SAFETY

This XEROX product and supplies are manufactured, tested and certified to strict safety
regulations, electromagnetic regulations and established environmental standards.
WARNING: Any unauthorized alteration, which may include the addition of new functions

or connection of external devices, may impact the product certification.


Please contact your XEROX representative for more information.
Warning Markings
All warning instructions marked on or supplied with the product shall be followed.

This WARNING alerts users to areas of the product where there is the possibility
of personal damage.
This WARNING alerts users to areas of the product where there are heated
surfaces.

Power Supply

This product shall be operated from the type of power supply indicated on the product's
data plate label. If you are not sure that your power supply meets the requirements, please
consult your local power company for advice.
WARNING
This product must be connected to a protective earth circuit.

1.3 Conventions

This product is supplied with a plug that has a protective earth pin. This plug will fit only
into an earthed power outlet. This is a safety feature. To avoid risk of electric shock,
contact your electrician to replace the power outlet if you are unable to insert the plug
into it. Never use an earthed adapter plug to connect the product to a power outlet that
lacks an earth connection terminal.
To disconnect all electrical power to the product, the disconnect device is the power
cord. Remove the plug from the power outlet.

Ventilation
Slots and openings in the product's enclosure are provided for ventilation. Do not block
or cover the ventilation vents, as this could result in the product overheating.
This product should not be placed in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is
provided, please contact your XEROX representative for advice.
Never push objects of any kind into the ventilation vents of the product

Operator Accessible Areas


This product has been designed to restrict operator access to safe areas only. Operator
access to hazardous areas is restricted with covers or guards, which would require a tool
to remove. Never remove these covers or guards.
Maintenance
Any operator product maintenance procedures will be described in the user documentation
supplied with the product. Do not to carry out any maintenance on the product, which is
not described in the customer documentation.
Cleaning Your Product
Before cleaning this product, unplug the product from the power outlet. Always use
materials specifically designated for this product, the use of other materials may result in
poor performance and may create a hazardous situation. Do not use aerosol cleaners,
they may become flammable under certain circumstances.

The machine is set at "Tray 1", "Document Mode", "Unsorted" and "100%" at the factory. Paper
size lamp flashes, displaying the size of paper used before the previous turn-off of the machine.
With these default settings, you can make size-for-size copies by loading documents, selecting
paper size, setting the copy quantity and pressing

You can clear all current selections by pressing the
button.
The machine returns to the default settings -the same status as just after turning the power
on. The Copy Density may return to a setting other than the default with the Copy Density
Memory feature.

When inactive for approximately two minutes, the machine will clear all current selections.

G.S.M. is a measure of the substance of paper expressed in grams per square meter.
Ream weight is for a 788~1,091
mm ream consisting of 1,000 sheets.
Trays 1 and 2 can accommodate Xerox paper (66-90g/m2).

In addition to the above paper stock, the machine can copy on the following output media.
For best copy results, we recommend you to use Xerox special paper.

3.1 Paper Stock

The storage of paper requires the following precautions:


Paper should be stored in a cabinet to protect it against humidity.
Damp paper can cause jams or poor image quality.
Repack the remaining ream for storage, preferably with desiccant in it.
Keep paper on a flat surface to avoid folding or curling.

The handling of paper requires the following precautions.


Do not load loose paper that has been collected from various sources.
Do not use folded or wrinkled sheets.
Use the size of paper that matches the tray size.
As a first priority, use the paper side indicated by the arrow on the wrapping.

Replacing Toner Cartridge

As you make copies, toner is consumed gradually in the cartridge. When the toner decreases
below a certain level, the Replace toner cartridge lamp flashes. When toner has run out, the
lamp lights continuously and the Copy Quantity display shows J1. You cannot make copies
until the toner cartridge is replaced according to the following procedure.

After the machine stops, open the


front cover.
Place a sheet of paper on the front
cover to catch any loose toner and
prevent machine contamination.

Pull out the connector of the toner


cartridge.

While pushing the orange cartridge


release button, rotate the empty
cartridge in the direction of the arrow
until it stops.

Slide out the toner cartridge gently.


CAUTION
To avoid spills simultaneously slide the
toner cartridge into the copier whilst
removing the seal.

Unpack a new toner cartridge, and


shake it several times to loosen and
distribute evenly the contents, as
shown opposite.

and the Copy Quantity display shows J7. You cannot make copies until the copy cartridge is
replaced according to the following procedure.
