This Part of BS EN 1089 has been prepared by Subcommittee PVE/3/7, and is the
English language version of EN 1089-1 : 1996 Transportable gas cylinders Gas
cylinder identification (excluding LPG) Part 1: Stampmarking, published by the
European Committee for Standardization (CEN).
EN 1089-1 was produced as a result of international discussion in which the United
Kingdom took an active part.
Users of this standard should note that the examples in figures 1, 2 and 3 are given to
illustrate the location and form of each individual stampmarking. They do not relate to
each other in a manner that would be consistent for any individual cylinder.

Foreword
This European Standard has been prepared by
Technical Committee CEN/TC 23, Transportable gas
cylinders, the secretariat of which is held by BSI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a
national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 1997, and
conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by May 1997.
This European Standard has been prepared under a
mandate given to CEN by the European Commission
and the European Free Trade Association, and
supports essential requirements of EU Directive(s).
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations,
the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European
Standard: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France,
Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg,
