Montage
Description:
A clean blend of images of 2 images.
Date:
2/14/16
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 03
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Take two separate images and combined them into one image, without
hard boarders on the added image. The Image had to convey a message
along with some text to tell the message as well.
Process:
This was by far one of my favorite projects. First, I loaded the image of
the galaxy, and made sure it fill the page, or made it full bleed. After
the galaxy was placed, I had to blend in the image of Jesus Christ. I had
to use a layer mask to shade out the edges of the picture of Christ but
had to keep if clear enough to make sure the picture was still clear. Then
I created four separate text boxes with the phrase. Once I had the text
in the font and size I wanted, I put a drop shadow behind the white text
in order to make it stand out more from the stars and the rest of the
background.

Logos
Description:
Make a logo for a fictitious company.
Date:
2/21/16
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 03
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a new logo for a company. Show off the different style it could be
used with. Use the basic tools of Illustrator.
Process:
I used the rectangle tool to create the outline/background of the first
logo. I then used the ellipse tool to make the circle of the logo, after
which I made the lines of the gearshift symbol. I then added the
numbers and the initials of the company around the outside of the circle.
I then added a text box and typed out the title of the company. After I
finished the logo design, I copied it, along with the text, and changed the
text color for the one in the middle. I changed the font styles as well for
the other two and changed the background shape and color. The middle
one, I made a rectangle, then rounded the corners and did a color fill of
green. I made the last shape using the ellipse tool.

Olivanders Wands

Description:
Make a business card, front and back with a new logo.
Date:
2/28/16
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 03
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign & Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a new logo for a company or personal image. Design consistent
layouts for a business card and letterhead, using the basic tools of
Illustrator & InDesign.
Process:
I made the new logo using Illustrator. I made a text box first and typed
the O of Olivanders. I then created the shape of the wand consisting of
four shapes, using only the rectangle tool. After I had the logo all made
up, I started the InDesign file. In InDesign, I made two rectangles and color
filled them black to make background the front and back of the buisness
card. After that I added the text of the company name Olivanders
Wands, the address, and the phrase on the backside of the card. I then
added the logo by dragging and dropping the Illustrator file into InDesign.

For all of your

magical wands,
this is the only
place to go.

Letterhead
Description:
Make a letterhead, include a watermark.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign & Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a new logo for a company or personal image. Design consistent
layouts for a business card and letterhead, using the basic tools of
Illustrator & InDesign.
Process:
After having made the buisness card in the aforementioned project. I used
the same logo in InDesign again to make a letterhead. For top portion, I
made a box that spanned the entire page using the rectangle tool, then
color filled it with the beige color. After I finished the box, I took the
Illustrator fill and dropped it into this project. I the resized it and placed it
in the top left corner. I then created a text box and typed the address for
the store. Finally, to make the watermark, I copied the logo I had already
place at the top of the page, and resized much larger than the original.
Then I had to place the image so when it printed, the logo was cut off
directly in the center. After the tedious task of placement, I was able to
change the transparency of the logo so it would actually be a water mark.

Brochure
Description:
Build a brochure about a topic of our choosing.
Date:
3/27/16
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 03
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Word
Objectives:
Create a brochure about any subject, use at least four images, text wrap
around an image, and create a new logo.
Process:
First I worked on the front/back of the brochure. I made the first bar of
teal across the bottom(front) of the brochure, then copied and pasted it
and all the ends of the pages. Then I inserted the main image of the baby
for the front, after having edited the color of the clovers on his shirt using
Photoshop. Then I added the Welcome box at the top of the front and
added all the text seen on the front. After that, I made another text box
and typed in the name of the studio and the address. When I finish with
the address, I made the logo using three rectangle to make the body,
flash, and the trigger of the camera. I then added the lens of the camera
using the ellipse tool, then placed an E in the center for Eliason and to
make the camera look like there is light glinting off the lens. After I had
placed the logo, I got to work on the inside of the brochure. I typed up all
the body text in Microsoft Word, the created text boxes and place all of
the text in the brochure. After organizing all the text I added in the three
photos at the bottom of the page. I had to recolor the shirt of the baby
again, which I did in Photoshop again. After I had finished all this, I had to
text wrap around the image of the baby I had cutout in Photoshop. I setup
this brochure to be a overlay design, meaning the photos on the bottom
of the inside still show when the brochure is closed, which took a while to
organize the text to line up right for the fold of the brochure.

Web Page
Description:
Build a web page with a logo and design description.
Date:

Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
HTML and CSS
Objectives:
Learn the basic language of HTML and CSS by creating a web page to
show a logo and to discribe the process of creating said logo.
Process:
After having learned how to write code for HTML I was able to design the
page, and place the logo within the HTML document so it would show
on the web page. I had to put in an unordered list for the color, target
audience, design, and tools and tricks sections of the page. I then had to
use CSS to designate the colors, boarders of the page, and the fonts for
the entire page.

Event Ad

Ballet Benefit

Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word
Objectives:
Using Microsoft Word, scan an image and add it to the document and
then create a event around that image. Use the rules of design to make a
esthetically pleasing ad.
Process:
After I had scanned in the photo, I added it to the document I had created
and the cropped out the sections I didnt want in the add. After I had it
the way I wanted, I added the text. I then added the background with a
gradient pattern which gets darker towards the center of the page, but
not drastically darker.

Flier
Description:
Use files provided to create a flier.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 03
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Create a flier with good whitespace, and a good flow for the reader.
Process:
I used the rectangle tool to create the heading for the flier, and made the
Leadership Conference larger to draw more attention to what the event
was going to be about. I created two more text boxes, on to hold the body
of the text, and the other to hold the question written on the side. After I
had this all layed out I added in the image and placed it so the pen would
be directing readers to look at the text.

Imaging
Description:
Make a poster using full bleed imaging
Date:
2/7/16
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 03
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Build a full color scheme using colors within the image selected.
Process:
I first loaded the photo to the program and resized it so it would fill the
page. I then made a rectangle, color filled it red, which can be seen in the
image and then added the yellow colored text which can be found out the
signpro part of the sticker. I then added another rectangle and colored
it the blue in the SAE part of the sticker. Then, using the polygon tool,
I made three different hexagons, one red, one blue, and one yellow; all of
which are outlined with a white boarder. I then copied the red one thrice,
and aranged it in the triangular pattern. After I organized the red one, I
did the same with the other two colors. I then added four more text boxes
to house the triadic which is the color scheme of the whole design, and
the three titles of the colors.
