Date: March 29, 2015
Programs Used: Adobe InDesign, Illistartor, and
Photoshop
Description: A two sided folding brochure.
Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded
document.Create an original, new logo and use it in a
brochure.Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least
four quality images, not including the logo. One should
be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so
the text follows the cutout shape of the image.
Process: I made the logo in adobe illustrator by using the
pen tool and the rounded pen tool. I then put my pictures
in Photoshop to touch them up. I took the crest and
cropped it and cut the crest in half and then routed each
half so that they would fit together correctly on the front of
the brochure. Then I cropped the golden snitch out of its
original image to separate it .This way I could wrap some
text around it. Then I went and cleaned up some of the
other photos that I used in the brochure. I then went in to
Indesign and added a rectangle around the whole page
filling it in with a maroon color and added a gold stroke.
Then on the front page I added the image of the castle,
the crest, the logo, and the some welcoming text. On the
inside of the brochure I went ahead and added my images
were I wanted them to be. Once I had the images in place
I added my text and wrapped some text around the

drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but
delete the image before submitting.)
Process: I actually had a lot of fun working in illustrator
this week. I used the ellispe tool to make the circles. I
used the circle pen to make the swirls. the rectangle
tool to make the squares and the star tool to make the
star.I used fonts from contrasting categories to make
the designs all come together well.

Course: Comunications 130, Section 5
Date: 2/28/2015
Programs Used: Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illistrator.
Description: Buisness Letterhead avertising the company and
their logo.
Objectives: Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not
imitate existing logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace.Use the new logo to design consistent layouts
for a business card and letterhead. Photos are okay on business
card and letterhead as additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125.
Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on a
vertical page.
Process: I created the logo using simple shapes in adobe illustrator. I used the ellispe tool to make the plate and top of the
cup. I then used the rounded pen tool to make the handle and
the right and left sides of the cup. Then to fully connect the cup
i used the pen tool connect the anchors together to make the
cup whole. Then I connected the ds together, then connected it
to the cup as well. After that I connected D-swizzles Cafe to it.
With my letterhead i placed my logo in the right top corner,
making a line under the logo across the page. I then made a
text box placed my information in it and placed that in the left
top corner. Then to finish off the design i took the cup enlarged
it, placing it in the bottom left corner and using it as a water
mark.
Then on my second page I used the rectangle tool to make the
shape of the business card i added a stroke and brought it out
so when printed out the shape can be made out. For the back
of the business i took the logo with the cup and D-swizzles cafe
and placed it in the middle. Then for the front of the business
card I took the cup logo and placed it in the right corner. Placing the name and job position in the middle, placing the address in the right bottom corner and the phone numbers and
email in the bottom left corner. Then i added a grey fill to both
cards with a light feather.

Programs Used: Adobe Indesign
Description: a black and white promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.
Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Process: For the this project I made four sketches of ideas
that I had. Then I took one of these sketches and used it
as guide to create this layout in indesign. I used triangles
to brig in some repetition and used varies colors to bring
some contrast to the flier. I used one of the words in my title as a focal point to draw my audience in. I left what to be
a good amount of white space to draw in the audience as
well. I was given the image, title, logo, and content for this
flier.

Programs Used: Microsoftword and a scanner.
Description: For this project it is a full-color bleed ad to
promote a fundraiser of sorts made only with Microsoft Word
and a scanner
Objectives: Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together) Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design.Choose a color scheme and
typeface(s) that work for yourmessage and audience.
Process: The only program used to make this ad was Microsoft Word. The tools used were the text boxes and shape
tools. I scanned the picture of the cornfield in then i cropped
it to get rid of the added white space. After doing this I
stretched out the picture to fit the whole page going with a
Gold Matricidal color scheme. I used the shape tool to trace
some Corn shapes to add more of an emphasis to the corn
theme keeping to the yellow color scheme.

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop
Description: A spiritual and inspirational montage made by the
blending of three pictures and the use of typography.
Objectives: Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point
and flow Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant
spiritual message. Learn to blend two or more images together
gradually, using masks. Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop
skills for layout with multiple elements. Use a mask to apply a filter
to one part of the image
Process: 1. I cropped the background image to be 8.511.
2. I then selected a rust texture and overlayed that with the background picture. 3. I then picked the image of the Book of Mormon
placing it in the left corner and then adding a mask.
4. With black paint and 80% opacity, soft edged brush, I painted
away the images hard edges. 5. With a larger black brush I blend
the photo in with background image. 6. I then repeated the same
process with the image of the liahona. 7. I added some type with
two contrasting fonts. 8. Programs/tools used: Photoshop.
Message: I wanted to convey the maps and compasses
that Heavenly Father has given to us to make it through
our lifes journey.

Course: Communications 130, Section 5
Date: 3/14/2015
Programs Used: Notepad plus plus and Photoshop.
Description: It is a webpage designed to showcase my personally
created logo.
Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web
page so the long side is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and
how it appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include rationale for colors, appeal to target audience, design skills,
etc,)Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required
tags Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset
(provided), body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a link
to blog)
Process: I created this web page using only Notepad plus plus.
Before this project i had never before created a Html or CSS. I was
intrigued to find out that just by using a text editor you could create a whole website. It was a great experience for to also use the
http://www.W3.org HTML validator to check my work to make
sure all was well with my website.
After I added in all of my text and logo I added a pre-made CSS
document to my Html. Then I decided to use the colors from
my logo as my background colors. The topaz/blue color is my
main background color, while the grey is the color of the text
and border. I found the code for these colors by opening up
photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also changed my fonts
to Franklin Gothic and Shruti. Just in case the viewers browser did
not have these fonts I added in some backup fonts. I also added
some padding to my logo and text so that they would not be close
to the edge of my web page.I found this to be a very interesting
technique using CSS.(Programs and Tools:) Notepad Plus Plus
and Photoshop.

Description: The point of this was to demonstrate good photography skills and image editing skills by adding color into a poster
layout with the original image.
Objectives: Learn basic photography skills.
Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then
incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on
separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Process: So the first thing I did was pick my color scheme out of
the book which was the Triadic scheme. Then I took a picture of
some opened books and highlighters with my digital camera. I
then put the photo in Photoshop using these editing techniques:
levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance.I then design an
8.511 layout which included my photo, text, color circles which
are the repeating design elements. I then incorporated my Color
scheme title, color swatches, and color names into the design. I
used the eyedropper from the tool box to choose the colors to
make sure matched more accurately. I choice to go with the
missing piece idea and truly enjoy the half circles I created.
Which then add to the flow of my design.
