Brian
Bowman,
the
mayor of Winnipeg,
Manitoba answered all
of these, and many
more questions from an
enthralled
group
of
high school students of
Daniel
McIntyre
Colligate
Institute
(DMCI) when he visited
last October 13, 2016
around 2:30 in the
afternoon.

Despite

the fact
that Winnipeg has its
economy
growing
then why are there
still homeless people
around?

How did you and

With the all issues

that we have in
Winnipeg, what are
the
things
youre
trying to do to make
this town a better
place?"

During
Bowmans
campaign to become
the mayor of Winnipeg,
he promised that hes

going visit every high

school in the city to
have an extra mile to

listen to every voice

of the people hes
going to serve.
This last few weeks I
was in New York, San
Francisco, Vegas and
Gadsden trying to
reach
out
for
investors and have
new strategies for
our economy so that
people who doesnt
have jobs may have
the opportunity to
have one as well. I
know thats the only
key upon giving our
homeless
brothers
and sisters to have
their own place for
comfort too. ---Said
Bowman
assuring
one of those kids who
apprehensively asked
Him
about
the
homelessness issue
of some people in
Winnipeg.

Moreover, as much
as hed loved to
answer
every
question
thats
gabbling in the head
of each student they
have to cut it for
there was a little bit
time
left
before
school-clock rings. As
he concluded, he did
the selling sought
dub of twenty-first
century kids and as
he did, everyone in
the gym of the said
school,
Daniel

Institute, started to
shriek, clap, and go
crazy to what they
just saw from a
mayor who wasnt
from the generation
they
have
today.
Thenceforth,
DMCI
gave
him
an
appreciation
token
before he left the
school.

Just
Look Up

I have 3643 friends, yet

I am lonely. I speak to
them every day, yet

or at a name on a

screen. I took a step
back and opened my
eyes, I looked around
and realized, that this
media we call social is
anything but social?
When we opened our
computers,
its
our
door we shut. All these
technologies we have
are just an illusion of
community,
companionship a sense
of inclusion. A world
where were slaves to
the
technology
we
mastered, where our in
formations gets sold by

some
rich
greedy
bustard. A world of selfinterest,
self-image,
self-promotion
where
we share our best bits,
but leave out the
emotion. We are at our
most happy with an
experience we share,
but is it the same when
no-one is there. Be
there for your friends,
and theyll be there
too, but no-one will be
there if a group chat
will do.
Being alone isnt the
problem, let me just

emphasize, that if you

read a book, paint a
picture or do some
exercise, you are being
productive.
Youre
awake and attentive
and putting your time
to good use. So when
youre in public, and
you start to feel alone,
put your hands behind
your head, and step
away from your phone.
You dont need to store
at your menu, or at
your contact list, just
talk to one another,
and learn to co-exist. I
cant stand the silence
of a busy commuter
area, when no one
wants to talk through
the fear 0f looking
insane. Were b e c o m
i n g unsocial, it no
longer
satisfies
to
engage
with
one
another, and look into
someones eyes.

Were surrounded by
children
who
since
being born, watch us
living like robots and
think its the norm. Its
not very likely you will
become the worlds

greatest dad, if you

cant entertain a child
without
using
iPad.
When I was a child, I
would never be home, I
would be out with my
friends, on our bikes we
roam. With holes on
our sneakers, we would
graze our knees. We
would build our tree
house, high up in the
trees. Now parks are so
quiet, it gives me a
child, to see no children
outside and the swings
hanging still. Theres
no
skipping
or
hopscotch, no church
and no steeple. Were a
generation of idiots,
smart
phones
and
dumb people.

Dont give into a life

where you follow the
hype, give people your
love, dont give your
like. Disconnect from
the need to be heard
and defined. Go out
into the world, leave
distractions
behind.
Look up from your
phone, shut down that
display, live life the real
way.

When youre too busy

looking
down,
you
dont see the chances
you miss. So look up
from your phones, shut
down that display, we
have a finite existence,
a set number of days.
Why waste all of our
time getting caught in
the net, as the end
comes, nothing is worst
than regret. I am guilty
too, of being a part of
this
machine,
this
digital world, where we
are heard but not seen.
Where we type and
dont talk, when we
read as we chat, where
we
spend
hours
together
without
making an eye contact.

I love
School

By: Michelle
Jadormeo

This years class of

grade 12 DMCI, with
the
majority
of
students born in the
year 1999. Has this tiny
little details in common
to each of them and
their worldview.
First things first, we
madly love our first
class in the morning.
We say Oh hey Sir! Hi
Maam! Hello friends!
with a smile that at
least sometimes not so
sarcastic, depending on
how loud did our alarm
clock
went
that
morning. Well, basically
we all love to go to
school
and
we
sometimes think how
lucky we are to have a
choice,
not
to
mention
peoples
manipulative and very
persuading words for
us so that, as they
say well going to end
up in a right path if we
listen to their advice,
and then theres us, so
obedient
and
wholeheartedly would
end up saying I dont
know
Okay
Whatever. Oh, yes I
forgot we do have this
thing
that
parents
wants us to prefer as
well, we have this, if
you want to end up in a
better place with a king
sized bed, soft cotton
pillows and having two
mustang in our garage

then dont
sleep
or if

youre contented with

us, youre parents, go
sleep
and
the
basement is forever
open for you but have
a little guilt feeling as
well as pay for the
napkins to clean your
butt.
Sleepless
nights
because of homework,
exams, test, quizzes
and stuffs that we are
so much willing to
sacrifice but neither
one of our teachers
even asked How was
everyones sleep and
its ironic how they
would always advise us
to have at least have
an eight hours of rest
because as far as my
memorys concern, that
so called 8 hour rest, I
learned
that
from
school yet I never get
to try it because of
school.

Moreover, we are so
much thankful to our
cafeteria. Substantially,
they were the closest
and most convenient
store to have our
breakfast and lunch. No
wonder they are
grabbing
that
opportunity
to
cut one hash brown
into two and let us
pay the other half
for
fifty-cents
to
make
it
affordable.
Again, were talking
about
choice
here.
Well, thats our choice,
yes, if were going to
buy it or not but the
thing here is, even if
you do have a car to
get in to school, or
winter jacket during
winter, would you like
to go outside with
negative
thirty-five
degrees with the wind
of forty-two kilometers
per hour and has snow
everywhere then fog
coming off your way
too? That would be nice
if youre trying to prove
something
to
your
girlfriend or boyfriend
that youre willing to
take
everything
for
love, and there goes
their cheesy lines. High
school students we are.
Nonetheless, Im as
student from DMCI, a
graduating student. I
adore the school so
much
from
the

principal
to
the
maintenance though he
shut-out the closest
door to the bus stop
where I still need to
walk all the way in the
front main door then I
get to be marked late
for my first class
good morning to me.

The 2nd home, thats
how
everybody
describes a school. A
home is somewhere
to be. A home is
where one feels safe.
A home is where one

learns.
Daniel
McIntyre
Collegiate
Institute
(DMCI),
through the years,
became a foundation
of wide knowledge
for
competent
learners.
And
knowledge is not the
only
thing
thats
being implanted into
the learners minds.
Values became a part
of the daily teaching
and
learning
especially honesty.
This
institutions
battle cry: Honesty is
the Best Policy is not
a new saying for the
general
people
anymore. Its posted
to random corners of
the school and some
classrooms inside the
said school as well.
Surely,

the
students
recognize or has seen
those
said
signs,
DMCI was just trying
to emphasize it more
to their students, but
the question is, do all
students know what
it means? Do all of
them even try to

decipher
what
it
means? And do ALL
of THEM put it in their
hearts?
The problem with
most people, when
asked to tell what
this saying means is
that they only define
the term Honesty
and leave the four
other words. In order
to fully understand
this is by defining its
basic terms.
Honesty. So what is
this? Just another
value of being a
scout? Honesty is
simply being honest,
being true. You can
be frank but still
youre saying the
truth. Stating facts
when asked to do so.
Honesty
is
the
opposite of lying.
Being fair is also
being honest. Being
honest
is
being
truthful, sincere, and
genuine.
Next to be defined,
the word Best. Best
is being the greatest.
When you say best,
it means unbeatable.
Nothing could ever
overcome what is
best. Best

is being on top,
highest among all
others. Best is the
highest degree one
could ever be.
Lastly, Policy also
needs
to
be
discussed. Policy, if
studied well, would
be observed to have
some
connections
with politics. Policy is
a
guideline.
Something
that

should be followed
and never to be
violated. Something
that
should
be
respected. Policy is a
rule, it is a law.
Now, that the basic
terms
have
been
defined, the meaning
would be showing
itself. Honesty is the
Best Policy would
mean Being truthful
is the highest form of
LAW. And so, it
needs not to be
written
anymore.
Theres no need to be

reminded
of
it.
Whats needed is for
it to be marked in
everyones
hearts.
Being truthful, being
genuine
is
an
unwritten law and
that everyone should
always be a true
person. Thats what
DMCI been trying to
implement
its
students for years
now.

The Editor
Winnipeg Press
Dear Sir or Madam
On the 30th of July this year, your newspaper published an article
about the school Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute or DMCI. In
your article DMCI is portrayed as one of the most racist school in
Winnipeg. I want to bring it to your kind attention that that is not
true.
I have been a student at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute
(DMCI) since I was in grade nine, and I can tell you that it is one of
the most accommodating and friendliest school as well in
Winnipeg. Ive been into three schools before I end up going to
high school and entrusting that said high school life of mine to
DMCI. I used to get bullied and in every school there is a racism,
but since DMCI has different kinds of students with different kinds
of stories and burdens as they carry it every single day, we were
thought to value and respect our fellows. If DMCI was a racist
school then why is it that kids outside the area or Winnipeg school
division covered area, like some of my friends that, not to mention
with a different race, would still choose to go and stay to our said
school, DMCI. And sir, madam, if my school was a too racist for
your standards then try to think about, why DMCI is still one of the
biggest school in Winnipeg?

Winnipeg Press is a much respected newspaper and you are

supposed to uplift people in Winnipeg not to discourage students
to not go to DMCI and let the world know lies about my school
that reflects most likely the City as well. You should have at least
checked twice the said article sir/maam before buying and letting
us soak into rumors.
I am requesting you to republish this article with all inaccuracies
corrected. I think the least you should do is to publish a public
apology to my school for defaming us in this way
Expecting Prompter,
Michelle Jadormeo
