Informative Speech Outline: SpaceX
Purpose: To inform the students of the history and present goals of the space company, SpaceX.
INTRODUCTION:

Attention-Getter: Question looking at the sky. Mention Star Wars and the series
representation of living on multiple planets.
Thesis: SpaceX will be the first company to send humans to Mars.
Relevance: This will change the world. We will become a multi-planetary species.
You will be able to look at the sky and know other people are there.
Speaker Credentials: I have watched every interview with Elon Musk, the CEO, and
did my research on SpaceX to understand its vision of the future.

BODY:
1. History of SpaceX: what SpaceX was and present standing.
A. Founded in 2002 by CEO Elon Musk, SpaceX started out with a few employees.
a. No large expectations yet
b. The mission to go to Mars and become a multi-planetary species
c. $100 million invested in 2006 by Elon to accelerate advancement
B. Falcon 9
a. Constructed and launched in 2010
b. 2012, failed four times and succeeded with fifth launch
c. Obtained $1.6 billion contract with NASA
d. Symbolized need for reusability
C. Rockets and First-Stage Reusability
a. Grasshopper used 8 times to test a launch-and-land of same 24-story rocket in
2013
b. Obtained Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle contract from Air Force in
2013 for $11 billion (Rogosa, 2015)
c. Falcon 9 failed two launches and succeeded with third in 2015
d. Failed one launch and succeeded twice in 2016

2018.

CONCLUSION
1. Conclusion
a. Through many failures, SpaceX prevailed and managed to change space history.
b. The current technological research done will be used to send humans further than
Earths orbit
c. SpaceX has set a path for further rocket science advancement.
2. Clincher
I want to remind you that this is all real.
We could all be on Mars in our lifetime, an experience that was not foreseen a few
years ago.
This is going to happen. You might as well strap on your seatbelts and get ready to
stare at the new red horizon.
