1. What are the different methods used in power system which help in increasing
transmission capability of EHV lines?
2. How would you compare between AC and DC transmission systems?
3. Mention advantages and disadvantages of DC power transmission over HVAC
transmission system.
4. How HVDC transmission systems are classified? Explain Monopolar, Bipolar and
Homopolar links in detail with relative advantages and disadvantages of each.
5. Give detailed description of different components used HVDC transmission
conversion and inversion substations supported by a complete architecture.
6. What is Flexible AC Transmission system? Describe its features and various FACTS
devices in detail.
7. What should be the characteristics of insulating materials used in underground
grounds? Discuss in detail constructional parts of underground cables.
8. Describe relative advantages and disadvantage of underground cables system over
overhead transmission system.
9. Explain various insulating materials used in underground cables.
10. How underground cables are classified. Explain belted cables, screened cables and
pressure cables.
11. Write in detail different methods of laying underground cables.
12. What are different types of Faults that possibly occur in underground cables?
13. Describe in detail Murray Loop Tests and Varley Loop tests performed on underground
power cables.
14. What do you mean by grading of cables? Describe in detail capacitance grading and
inter sheath grading .

a. Insulation resistance of a single core cable.
b. Capacitance of a single core cable.
c. Dielectric stress in a single core cable.
