    A complete charge and discharge of a battery is known as a cycle. The depth of discharge (DOD) refers to how much of the battery's energy has been used, with 0% being fully charged and 100% being fully discharged. Keeping batteries at a lower DOD, such as discharging only 25-30% for a mobile phone battery, can dramatically improve the battery's cycle life. Batteries used regularly are considered to be in cyclic use, while standby batteries are kept fully charged and ready to activate when needed.

    Cycle of Battery:

    A complete charging and discharging of a battery is known as a complete cycle. OR

    A charge cycle is the process of charging a rechargeable battery and discharging it as required
    into a load.

    F.V/Time:
    F (Fixed Load).V (Voltage) is the voltage remained available in each cell of battery after drawing a fixed
    load for specific time period.

    DOD( Depth of discharge):


    DOD, short for the Depth of Discharge, is used to describe how deeply the battery is
    discharged. If we say a battery is 100% fully charged, it means the DOD of this battery is 0%, If
    we say the battery have delivered 30% of its energy, here are 70% energy reserved, we say the
    DOD of this battery is 30%.
    Mobile phone users typically recharge their batteries when the DOD is only about 25 to 30
    percent. At this low DOD a lithium-ion battery can be expected to achieve between 5 and 6
    times the specified cycle life of the battery which assumes complete discharge every cycle.
    Thus the cycle life improves dramatically if the DOD is reduced.

    Cycle Use VS Standby Use:


    When a battery is being used as a power source on a regular basis and it is being discharged
    and subsequently recharged, the battery is said to be in cyclic use. Consequently
    standby batteries are kept fully charged so that they can kick in immediately.
