Topic: IMPROMPTU SPEECH

SPEECH

- A formal address or discourse delivered to an audience.


- The ability to express thoughts and feelings by articulating sounds.

FOUR BASIC TYPES OF SPEECH DELIVERY

1. Extemporaneous Speech

- planned in advance but presented in a direct, spontaneous manner.

2. Manuscript Speech

- are speeches that are read word for word from a prepared text.

3. Memorized Speech

- consists of reciting a scripted speech from memory which allows the speaker to

be free of notes.

4. Impromptu Speech

- the presentation of a short message without advance preparation.

- it is a spontaneous reaction to the topic at hand which may introduce an

interesting turn to the discussion.

TIPS ON HOW TO CONSTRUCT AN IMPROMPTU SPEECH

The following are the simple templates or frameworks that you can use in constructing
an impromptu speech.

1) P.R.E.P (Point Reason Example Point)

Point start by clearly stating your point.


Reason share/state the primary reason.
Example share an example (probably in story form) where your main point or reason
is supported.
Point conclude by summarizing your central point again.

2) Issue, Pros vs. Cons, Conclusion

Issue start by stating the issue.


Pros vs. Cons talk about the benefits and then talk about the drawbacks.
Conclusion end your speech with your recommendation.

3. 5W (Who, What, When, Where, Why)

TIPS IN DELIVERING AN IMPROMPTU SPEECH

1. Be confident.

2. Make a catchy introduction.

3. Incorporate humor.

4. Involve your audience.

5. Trust your topic.

6. Use personal stories.

7. Practice talking in front.
