Lesson Plan 6

The lesson plan aimed to teach students in KG1 to recognize, count, and write the number 10. It included three small group activities of varying difficulty levels: tracing number 10 and counting pictures, counting monsters and writing the number, and counting pictures and writing the number. To conclude the lesson, each student received a plate shaped like a watermelon to stick 10 dots on. The teacher observed students during activities and assessed that they understood number 10 based on their participation and use of their fingers to count from 1 to 10. The lesson met its goals of teaching students to recognize, count, and write number 10.

Professional Development Plan

Diversity in choosing activities that suit the children and that encourage them to learn more

1. Choose and describe an aspect from a teaching competency that you need to work on (Goal)
Give students an opportunity to know number 10 with learning how to write it.

2. Describe what you will do to help achieve your goal (Strategies Used)
Trace the number on the paper and let the students to write it.

3. Describe how you can tell if you’re achieving your goal (Evidence)
Taking pictures and notes.

Grade Level: Subject: Learning Outcome (ADEC code and words):

- Recognize number 10.
KG1 Mathematics - Count and write number 10.

Resources (what materials/equipment will you and Preparation (what do you need to make or check before
the students use? Be specific) class?)

- Laptop - Checking the internet connection with the

laptop and projector.
- Smart board
- Prepare the lesson materials.
- Projector

- Worksheet
Key vocabulary

Introduction (warmer activity + teacher introduction/demonstration of small group activities)

Time: 10 min

I will begin the lesson by sitting in the circle area with the students and tell them the classroom
rules, play with them a number 10 game, for example, I will bring 8 students then I will ask
Whole

students who are sitting (how many students should I bring to have 10 students?).

1
Active Engagement (group working with the teacher)

- I will show students flash cards that have 10 different pictures.

- Next, I will count with them the number of pictures to they repeat after me.

- Then, teach students how to write the number 10 by writing it on the board in front of
them.

Independent Experience (high-level activity 1)

- Students will trace number 10, then count how many birds in the pictures and write
the number.
- Afterward, they will complete the missing number, they will have a serial of numbers
and number 9, 5 and 10 missing, so they will write the missing number.
-
Independent Experience (medium-level activity 2)

- Students will start to trace number 10.

- Next, they will count how many monsters they have in the pictures and write the
number.
Time: 20 min

Independent Experience (low-level activity 3)

Small

pictures they have and write the number.

In the closing activity, I will give each student a half plate as a shape of watermelon, pieces of
Time: 15 min

black dots, then I will let the students to stick 10 dots in each plate.
Closing

Assessment

- Observe students during the activities and ask them questions with taking notes.

Hot questions:

Overall aim and context of the lesson

For clarification, the lesson plan was the supportive approach for me in achieving my learning
outcomes in this lesson by allow the students to:

- Recognize number 10.

- Count and write number 10.

SWC Lesson Reflection (Completed after EVERY lesson taught)

Select (S):
Identify a lesson and what standards are you addressing:
I taught students number 10 lesson which aims to allow them recognize number 10, count and write
number 10. This lesson has been prepared according to student’s levels in the learning cycle by giving
them differentiated learning centers activities, for instance:
- Tracing number 10 with counting how many birds in the pictures and write the number,
then complete the missing number by having a serial of numbers and number 9, 5 and
10 missing, so they will write the missing number.
- Count how many monsters they have in the pictures and write the number.
- Count how many pictures they have and write the number.
As a result, from these activities students will be able to develop their skills in various of mathematics
aspects.

3
Describe (D):
Who is the lesson for? Where did the lesson take place?
This lesson was targeted for KG1 who are from 4 to 5 years old, the lesson has taken place in the
classroom and I introduced it by allowing the students to sit in the circle area, then I separated them into
the three groups to have the independent experience activities and when they finished the activities I
asked them to come in the circle area to conclude the lesson with an enthusiastic activity.

What were you trying to achieve in your lesson? What did the students do?
In this lesson I tried to achieve my learning outcomes by teaching students how to recognize number 10,
how to count tell 10 and write the number 10, the supportive method of achieving these goals was
providing students an engaging and challenging activities to suits their levels, abilities and to motivate
them by being focused on the activities.

According to that, students were involved very well in the lesson and the activities because when they
finished the activity they were coming to show me what they did. For example, during the activities
when I observed students, they were saying (ms we have 10 finger) and they show me their fingers.

Analyze (A):
Why do you think the students responded the way that they did? How well did your teaching relate to
the students’ prior understanding? How well did you engage the students?
According to student’s response, I can say that they were engaged very well and get encouraged in the
learning activities when I gave them a plate as watermelon shape to put 10 dots on it, they were
counting the dots while they are putting them and from that excitement I noticed that they understood
the lesson well.

Generally, I did an activity that was related to students prior understanding in the conclusion by giving
each student a half plate as a shape of watermelon, pieces of black dots, then I will let the
students to stick 10 dots in each plate. So, from that I saw students how they reach the lesson
goals very well.

Appraise (A):
Explain the nature of the experience from the students’ perspective.
As I noticed that, this lesson was very attractive and effective because all the students enjoyed the
activities, participating to show me how they are recognized the number 10 very well because students
were counting from 1 to 10 using their fingers. As a result, from these responses of students I considered
that the lesson plan was reached students levels and their understanding.

Did your lesson meet your teaching goals?

4
In the point of interest, the number 10 lesson was effective at the end of the lesson I reached my
learning outcomes and students evolved their skills and abilities in several of ways during the learning
activities. As an example:
- Tracing number 10 with counting how many birds in the pictures and write the number,
then complete the missing number by having a serial of numbers and number 9, 5 and
10 missing, so they will write the missing number.
- Count how many monsters they have in the pictures and write the number.
- Count how many pictures they have and write the number.

Transform (T):
How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future?
As looking forward to my future, I will continue my teaching strategies in this way to attract student’s
attention and let them be excited from the beginning of the lesson when I played with them a number
10 game by bringing 8 students and ask students who are sitting (how many students should I
bring to have 10 students?).

What are the implications for your professional practice?

For clarifying, I noticed that I had an opportunity to manage student’s behavior by the reward system
chart by looking at students who are following the classroom rules and give them a star.
