Pollution in this world
Today, there are many pollution happens in this world in every country. Pollution is
the introduction of contaminants into discomfort, instability, harm and disorder to the
ecosystem in this world. There are many types of pollution such as, air, water, soil and
noise pollution. Pollution became a popular issue after World War II, due to radioactive
fallout from atomic warfare and testing. Then a non-nuclear event, The Great Smog of 1952
in London, killed at least 4000 people. This prompted some of the first major modern
environmental legislation, The Clean Air Act of 1956. Pollution began to draw major public
attention in the United States between the mid-1950s and early 1970s, when Congress
passed the Noise Control Act, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and the National
Environmental Policy Act.
Air pollution is a major problem faced by people across the globe. A number of
causes are related to the contamination of atmosphere. Polluted air leads to numerous
health problems, ranging from the mild to the chronic ones. As far as human health is
concerned, poor quality of air seriously affects the body's respiratory and cardiovascular
system. The severity in diseases may depend upon the degree of exposure to polluted air.
There are many factors of the air pollution such as, combustion of fuel. Burning of fossil
fuels such as natural gas and gasoline leads to the emission of carbon dioxide and other
gases and increased level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Besides, power plants
exhaust fumes of automobiles, airplanes and other human activities involving the burning of
gasoline and natural gas are related to the emission of this greenhouse gas. The
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), a class of synthetic chemicals used in refrigerants and aerosol
propellants, have caused hole in Earth's ozone layer. The use of this banned chemical is
related with the increasing levels of air pollution. Sulphur dioxide is one of the components
of smog, which is related with contamination of the Earth's atmosphere is also the factor of
air pollution.
Water pollution refers to the addition of foreign substances to a water source. These
impurities have a detrimental effect on water quality, and can be harmful to living organisms
and aquatic life. Pollution can be introduced to water from both point sources and diffuse
sources. Common sources of pollutants include man-made industrial waste and domestic
sewage, and natural sources such as soil erosion and silt-bearing runoff. Farmers often
use chemicals to hinder bug infestations or other diseases from damaging or ruining their
crops. They may also use chemicals to enhance the growth of their crops. Either way,
these chemicals seep into the ground water or run off into lakes, creeks, or rivers, causing
water pollution.
Land pollution is also a common problem worldwide. Land pollution is the direct result of the
activities that humans engage in. Land pollution basically is about contaminating the land surface
of the Earth through dumping urban waste matter indiscriminately, dumping of industrial waste,
mineral exploitation, and misusing the soil by harmful agricultural practices. Land pollution
includes visible litter and waste along with the soil itself being polluted. The soil gets polluted by
the chemicals in pesticides and herbicides used for agricultural purposes along with waste matter
being littered in urban areas such as roads, parks, and streets. The land pollution is happen
because of the Increases in urbanization, Increases in agricultural land, domestic waste,
agricultural activities and industrial activities. The land pollution will affect such as exterminates
wild life acid rain kills trees and other plant and vegetation that provides food and shelter is
destroyed. It also can seriously disrupt the balance of nature, and, in extreme cases, can cause
human fatalities. Besides, pesticides can damage crops, kill vegetation and poison birds, animals
and fish. Most pesticides kill or damage life forms other than those intended. For example,
pesticides used in an effort to control or destroy undesirable vegetation and insects often destroy
birds and small animals. Some life forms develop immunity to pesticides used to destroy them.
However, every problem has its solution. There are many ways to prevent this pollution.
