This document contains a tutorial sheet with questions on estimation, costing, and valuation for a civil engineering course. It includes 3 questions: 1) estimating the cost of a building for 200 people using given rates, 2) preparing a preliminary estimate for a multistory office building, and 3) estimating quantities of construction items like earthwork and brickwork for a two-roomed building based on provided plans and sections. Diagrams and formulas are provided for calculating percentages for items like water supply, electrical installations, and contingencies.

1. Draw a primary estimate of a building for 200 persons by
given details –plinth area rate Rs 1100 sq.m ,carpet area per person =1.10 sq m, water rate 5 %,sanitation 6%,, electrification 10 %, work charge establishment 5%, contingency 2.5%. 2. Prepare a preliminary estimate of a multistory office building having a carpet area of 2200 sq.m .35 % of the built-up area will be taken up by corridors , verandahs , lavatories, staircases etc. And 1% of built-up area will be occupied by walls. Assume plinth area rate to be Rs 2500/sq.m. Provide for water supply, sanitary fittings, electrical installations, contingencies and other services. (Water supply+ sanitary fittings+ electrical installations =15%), (Contingencies and other services=10%) 3. Estimate the quantity of the following items of a two roomed building from the given plan and section. Below plinth level for .20m partition wall all data remain same. (Fig1) a) Earthwork in excavation in foundation b) Lime concrete in foundation c) 1st class brick work in cement mortar (1:4) in foundation and plinth d) 2.5 cm cement concrete in DPC e) 1st class brick work in cement mortar (1:6) in super structure
