PLANT DESIGN
SEPARATION PROCESSES
PARTICLE TECHNOLOGY
Particle Technology is a broad course but we focused more on the particle size
analysis packed and fluidized beds, storage and transport, separation (filtration and gas
cyclones). During our class, our professor, Engr. Michael Ramos focused more on the
basic concepts of the said course which we highly appreciated. He also provided
activities that requires group discussion and gave group assignments as well. He
always also discussed the solutions to the problems that he gave us in our quizzes. One
of my favorite topics in Partech course is the particle size analysis that covers the
concept of mesh, which I mostly used and apply in my current job.
I learned that this course aims to ensure the safety of people involved in process
plants, especially those who face its immediate hazards and dangers. This course
covers topics such as the history of process hazards and attitudes in health and safety;
laws concerned with the health and safety in the process industry; and the definitions of
different terms related to health and safety. It also discusses the electrical, chemical,
and physical hazards in the process industries, as well as the dangers of flammability
and corrosion. It talks about hazard control design; protective instrumentation; and
maintenance and inspection. As well as topics related to the management of health and
safety in industry processes such as emergency planning; safety training; and
protection the working environment. The course is not just for Chemical Engineering but
also recommended for people concerned in the management, development, planning,
design, construction, operation, inspection and maintenance of process plants, as well
as those who oversee its safety. During our class, our professor, Engr. Lina Dela Cruz
passionately discussed these things to us, that safety of the people is the most
important thing in the process plants. We also had our group reporting and situational
kind of exams which I find engaging and helpful.
My suggestion regarding the course is that, may be they can provide seminars or
plant tours that will discussed or show the importance of safety in process plants.
