    CAVE PAINTINGS – 38,000 BC


    Cave paintings (also known as
    parietal art) are painted drawings
    on cave walls or ceilings, mainly of
    prehistoric origin. The exact purpose
    of these paintings is not exactly
    known.

    HIEROGLYPHICS - 4000 BC
    Most of the pictures can stand for
    the object they represent, but
    usually they stand for sounds.
    Hieroglyphics can be pictures of
    living creatures, objects used in daily
    life or symbols.

    ROMAN ALPHABET – 6TH CENTURY BC


    The Latin or Roman alphabet is the
    writing system originally used by the
    ancient Romans to write the Latin
    language.

    PRINTING PRESS - 1440 and 1450


    German goldsmith, Johannes
    Gutenberg made the first printing
    press in 1440. It was a manual press,
    but his great achievement was to
    put together a complete process to
    prepare and print pages.

    TYPEWRITER – 1878
    The first typewriter was invented by
    Christopher Latham Sholes. It is a
    mechanical device to produce printed
    characters on a piece of paper by typing
    individual keys. They became widely used
    for business communication.

    TELEGRAPH AND MORSE CODE – 1830s


    The telegraph revolutionised long-distance
    communication. It worked by transmitting
    electrical signals over a wire laid between
    stations. The Morse code encodes the basic
    Latin alphabet as well as standardised
    sequences of short and long signals called
    ‘dots’ and ‘dashes’ or ‘dits’ and ‘dahs’.

    THE TELEPHONE – 1870s


    The concept of the telephone dates back to
    the string telephone or lover’s telephone that
    used two diaphragms connected by a taut
    string or wire. The essential idea was that a
    diaphragm can collect voice sounds from the
    air as in the ear and a string or wire can
    transmit voice sounds at a distance.

    RADIO – 1895
    The radio is essentially a wireless
    telegraph. The first successful radio
    was invented by Guglielmo Marconi
    that was based on airborne Hertzian
    waves (radio transmission).

    TELEVISION – 1950s
    The first TV was a black and white
    tv signal that was broadcasted to
    living rooms everywhere.

    COMPUTER AND MICRO-PROCESSORS - 1980s


    With the development of fibreoptic cable in the
    1960s and the birth of a rather full-figured cell-
    phone in the 1980s. They used Dow Corning
    silicone and computer chips to build personal
    computers.

    THE INTERNET – 1983


    It was first used by the US
    government until the 1990s when
    internet browsing went commercial
    marking the tipping point for email
    and in the shower away messages.
    Web browsing went from desktops
    to mobile devices and tablets with
    the advent of 3G AND 4G
    technology allowing us to
    communicate at light speed from
    anywhere on the globe.
