    sticks and write how many ones, tens and
    hundreds are in the number.
    Questions:

    5. Ask students to layout the place value cards in


    the right order- thousands, hundreds, tens and
    ones. Read them out together and ask them all
    if they are correct.

    6. Place different numbered cards underneath


    each of the place values. Read out the
    numbers, together and individually.
    Questions:
    If we move these numbers around will the number get
    smaller or larger?
    What does the zero do here.

    7. Powers of ten- Ask the students how many pop


    sticks go in the ones column? How many go in
    the tens, hundreds and thousand? Bundle up
    the pop sticks and show this progression.
    Count the number of tens in the hundred- by counting
    1 ten, 2 ten, 3ten etc..

    8. Put the number flash cards underneath the


    bundled pop sticks and ask students how many
    ones are in this number, how many tens.

    Conclusion
    9. Students fill out the reflection sheet.
    What was the smartest thing you did today in
    maths? Tell me how you did this?
    Tell me about something you did today that
    surprised you.
