New PA Column - THK Calc

1. The document provides calculations to determine the minimum required thickness of shell, head, and cylindrical shell course for a vessel based on internal pressure, external pressure, and other design parameters. 2. For the shell and head, the minimum required thicknesses were determined to be 1.8570 mm and 1.8547 mm respectively, which are less than the nominal thickness of 8.00 mm. 3. For the cylindrical shell course, the maximum allowable working pressure was initially calculated to be 9.5677 kPa based on an assumed thickness of 8.00 mm, which is lower than the design external pressure. Stiffening rings would be required or a larger thickness selected.

THICKNESS BASED ON EXTERNAL PRESSURE (without stiffeners)
STEPS :
1 Assume t
2 Determine L/Do and Do/t
Enter L/Do in Fig G. in Subpart 3 of Section II Part D
For value L/Do > 50 use value at L/Do = 50
For value L/Do < 0.05 use value at L/Do = 0.05
3 For Value of Do/t find out factor A
4 Enter value of A in the applicable material chart in subpart 3 of section II, Part D for design
temperature. Interpolation may be made between lines for intermediate temperatures.
If the value of A falls to the right of the curve, use tip value of the curve.
5 Find value of factor B
6 Maximum allowable working pressure Pa : 4B / 3 (Do/t)
7 If A falls to left of curves in step 4, Pa : 2AE / 3 (Do/t)
8 Compare the calculated value of Pa with P. If Pa is smaller than P, select a larger value for t and
repeat the design procedure until a value of Pa is obtained that is equal to or greater than P.
