EXPECTATION DURING ORIENTATION

Expectation is an advance thinking of what will happen, that’s why I

expect that during our orientation is just a requirement of our immersion, but according
to them expect the unexpected.

Orientation has an important objective that talks about work ethics. In order
for us to be aware we attended the Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS)
seminar conducted by the Depart of Labor and Employment (DOLE). We had also a
seminar from Municipal PESO manager for Pre-employment for local applicant (PESLA)
and final orientation for our proper immersion.

During LEGS seminar my expectation becomes real because work ethics has
been discussed which is useful in employment for my career. It talks about basic rights
of workers, cause of termination and many more. It also introduced us the functions of
DOLE and PESO, DOLE as a protector of workers and for a job seeker we have PESO.

Afterwards the Compostela PESO manager conducted the Pre-employment

Seminar for Local Applicants (PESLA) as a final orientation of our immersion. A student
like me expect and assumes as an applicants for a job offer which means to fulfill all
requirement including making resume and cover letter, facing job interviews, and
making portfolio’s that composed of my ne knowledge and skills in work when I get
hired. This seminar thought us the proper way in writing a resume and cover letter and
the speaker gives some tips on how to face the job interviews.

By those seminars I sense the importance of immersion. However, I can’t still

get rid of the feelings of nervous, a lot of things is highly prohibited and under control as
we undergo the final orientation for our proper immersion. I am expecting that it will
help me a lot for the near future I had soon.

EXPECTATION BEFORE WORK IMMERSION

Immersion is just a simple word with a letters. I expect that immersion is very
hard for me and it will be the dark days of my high school life. I will be exposing to
become familiar with work related to my chosen strand to enhance my competence. By
this I expect that I will be able to apply my skills and knowledge thought us in actual
practices in an industry. One of the great opportunities to work with is in the institution
of local Government Unit (LGU) where I hope I will be deploys to the said workplace.

Immersion is fast approaching I really thought our teachers will teach us and
practice how to apply, form fulfilling the requirements, facing job interviews, and how to
deal with it. But none of the expectation happens. Yes, they educate us what immersion
is, and they always remind us what would be the next steps.

We are near in actual practices to employment. I expect that during our

immersion proper there should be a sharing of ideas, knowledge, and wisdom from the
superior of the work industry and of course they will let us to apply the knowledge they
share. I expect also that they will fulfill all our lacks especially to the task given to us, and
they encourage us to be part of the industry soon.

In my young age and a first timer employee it is hard to deal with professional
and veterans and their fields because I expect that they are so strict in their timeliness
and it must have an occurring in their work especially in offices. Work immersion is a
true face of work in our field.
COMPOSTELA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
“Center Stage of Education Performance”

EXPECTATION TO THE INDUSTRY

I am assigned at the commission of election office in the Local Government

unit of Compostela as a third batch. Commission of Election is headed by Mr. ABDUL
KADER TAMBUANG JR.

I know that the COMELEC office is one of the most respected industries I
expect that one of their core values of this workplace is hospitality which can enhance
my human relations through communicating to the citizens of the entire Compostela
who will come to the office for their important transactions. I also expect that we can
work at ease in this type of industry.

I believe that the personnel who work with this industry are friendly and
respectful. And lastly I expect that this industry will assign us in line with our field which
can enhance and develop my knowledge.

I couldn't denied that I had an advance thinking about the industry , because it
is new for me to face the next steps of my senior years, I know that it is not the
beginning of my career but I know that it is the stepping stone of my journey through
success.

As a student who will work for immersion I hope that the industry I will be
working will meet my expectations above.

INSIGHT AND REFLECTION TO THE INDUSTRY

A lot of things happened during immersion. Expect some possible happenings

during work immersion and in the industry expectation happened for me but to others
may be not

I am very thankful and lucky that i am one of the student who assigned in
COMELEC office even though it’s hard for me to adjust about the environment because
their faces is new for me. There is a big different from the four corner of classroom in to
the industry, we talked loudly at school but in the offices we are just looking each other
and smile. It is shy to move because you don’t know their attitude. But then again I am
observing it. I know how hard to work without confident just because you feel the
environment that you are working with is not warm to you and dealing with their
strictness but this help me bolding myself how to work at ease despite of the situation.

I really felt that my mouth was paced by glue in terms of asking them on how
to work with it. In your heart you want ask some help but you can’t because of your
fright. The day was past and I am practicing myself to socialize with them in order for us
to cope up the fright inside in our hearts. A big yes after all because we can do perfectly
assigned task and I think it is an achievements for me to deal with other professional as
a student.

I’ve experience travelling to other places with my boss and I am asking myself
that I am supposed to be with them? A question that makes me drawn they keep on
joking on you but you are shy to laugh because they are your boss and you need to gives
a gap with them as a professional.

This experience was too helpful in sharpen my knowledge and skills in the
actual situation. This helps me to prepare in my journey out of the campus. My
experience is too valuable which cannot be tried to any materials. I am very glad that I
am one of the students of the k-12 program and to experience the said immersion as
being imparted of my educational purposes.

INSIGHT AND REFLECTION DURING ORIENTATION

A lot of learning was feed to us after all the orientation from fulfilling the
needs as a graduating student as being part of my immersion, and as a future
employment. This orientation happened is very memorable and important especially for
the graduating student.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) educate us about the

ethical work behavior. It is advance study for us especially to our future employment. It
also discussed about the basic right of the workers, cause of termination, and many
more. It also introduced to us the function of DOLE and PESO.

The different seminar is a kind of seminar that could not missed by the
graduating students because the half of their employment study will be nothing. It is
very helpful to the every ones future professionals because it deals with professionalism
values and aspects. Different inspiration was given in order for us to be inspired in doing
our stairs to reach all our goals in life.

INSIGHT AND REFLECTION BEFORE WORK IMMERSION

Working outside the school campus is very challenging it will be dealing

with other professionals. Personality, Character, Education, Skills and ability needs to
showcase together with your eagerness and self-disciplined.

The said immersion by the Department of Education is very helpful to us as a

student because it features our skills and capability to the work place. I could not able to
include expecting that this would be more difficult and challenging. It takes more
abilities in observing, predicting, and believing in your ability.

Sharing ideas, knowledge, and wisdom from my work place has been there and
they are fulfilling our lacks especially to the task given to us and they are encouraging us
to be part of the industry soon.

In my young age as a first timer employee I am very blessed that I am part of

the K-12 program and to gain experience in working in the field of elections.

NARRATIVE REPORT OF FIRST WEEK

I was assigned at the Commission on Election Office and the first day was very
important because the staff of the office gathered us for the short orientation for the
actual immersion they guide us were will be the other offices located like BIR, HR, and
etc.. Right after the orientation they told us to wait for a second in order for them to
assign us to our designated area. Then, our office head asked for our strand, he also
asked that if it is okay for us that our assigned task is to sign and stamp some paper.

After assigning our office head teach us on how to approach different clients.
My feeling was mix emotion because it is my first time to work with different COMELEC
transactions but I am eager to learn for it.

On the second day as I enter at the office I felt a little bit nervous because I
know in myself that this day will be different on the day that I was started. It is more
challenging because they let us to work without their guidance in order for us to gained
more leanings in our works. It seems like crazy or nothing because my mind was freaky
blank of what I am going to d. I face different clients and my patience was measured.
That’s why I’ve learned on how to control my patience and how to look presentable to
the clients.

The next day is my third day and my routine is the same from the other days,
nervous and learning from the people around us. New faces of clients to be faced, on
this day the greatest challenge I experience is to deal with senior citizens because they
are looking for their voters identification I tried my best to find their I.D but I failed,
instead of giving up I am eager to try my very best then I got it, I found the voter
identification of the clients and it’s been a experience of my third day.

Next in line is the fourth and the fifth day and its look like the same from other
days facing clients, stamping papers, and sitting down. The whole week of my immersion
was very memorable and great. I learned a lot of knowledge in the field of paper work
and dealing different types of clients.

NARRATIVE REPORT OF SECOND WEEK

This is the last week of our immersion and it will be a week of gaining
new knowledge and thoughts.

By this week nothing was change but there’s new, our boss asks us if we want to
go with them to have an orientation at San Miguel National High School. As we arrived
at the mentioned place the orientation was started, the orientation objective is the
proper way of voting, proper shading, and to avoid folding the ballot.

Even me as a first timer voter I’ve learned from the orientation it was very nice
being imparted at the COMELEC immersionist. Because learning new things are always
there. A few minutes ago orientation was adjourned and we go back to the office of
Commission of Election. Sir Kader gives us a short break to makes our minds fresh.

After the break I was shocked when sir Kader told us again that we need to travel
again to other place for an orientation, we packed all the instructional materials needed and
afterwards we go to New Bataan national high school and another orientation happen. The
same objective was discussed by the COMELEC Staff. It is very important to the first timer voters
to attend to orientation because it helps a lot to them.

On the other day they were just stay in the office and our task is to file all the
list of names who will vote for the coring local and national election. It makes me tired
but I need .to finish at all. I was discovered that there are a lot of voters here in
Barangay Poblacion. We could not able to finish the task. In one day that why it’s been
two days before we finish the task.

I have a lot of experience in this week and this experience I could lot able to
forget it helps me to assess myself in mean future.

WHAT IS IMMERSION?

Employment, entrepreneurship, further skills training through TESDA and

college education.

Contained in the enclosure of Deped Order No. 30, series of 2017 released
on June 5, the guidelines specify that the said work immersion will enable students to
become familiar with the workplace, experience workplace simulation and apply their
competencies in areas of specialization. The said work immersion activity can range from
80 to 320 hours.

DepEd hopes that partner institutions will provide learners with work
immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience, and additional learning
resources through partnership building.

The schools may partner with recognized institutions or organizations to

come up with agreements on work immersion for students and because the students are
still minors, work immersion requires parental consent.

Because the safety of learners is primary to Deped, the department shall

ensure that all schools and venues for learning are conducive to the education and
safety of the learners. This endeavor is in collaboration with its partners and
stakeholders found near where the schools are located.

The guidelines further provide that the maximum number of hours spent in
the work immersion venue is 40 hours per week and no more than eight hours per day
as provided by law.

So as not to exploit the students who are still minors, DepEd stressed that
work immersion should not be reduced as a mere recruitment tool for a partner
institution, saying that the students should also gain skills that will enable them to
qualify for other job options.

Consequently, the schools and students should not be asked to pay the
senior high school partner institution for any work immersion activity conducted. The
guidelines added that fees for work immersion must only be set after consultation with
parents.
COMPOSTELA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

This Corner hopes that these guidelines will serve its purpose of providing
the students, parents and the stakeholders a document to refer that will govern the
work immersion and a piece of paper that will realized the full potential of our SHS
graduates towards creating a climate of own

THE HISTORY OF COMPOSTELA NATIONAL HIGH

SCHOOL

Compostela National High School is located along Purok 7, Lapu-Lapu

St., Poblacion, Compostela, Compostela Valley. The three-hectare school site is bounded
west by Compostela Central Elementary School and Maputi Creek in the East. It is facing
south strategically located along municipal road while a wide oval field is found in its
rear area. “If you don’t know HISTORY…you don’t know anything. You are like a leaf that
doesn’t know it is a part of a tree.” Michael Crichton.
The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the
future. Theodore Roosevelt THE HISTORY OF COMPOSTELA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
More than 50 years ago, our old folks needed to traverse the strong water current of
Agusan River towards Bangkerohan of the nearby town, Montevista, Also, the younger
ones needed to take a long walk, as they experienced scorching pain of the sun’s heat
during sunny days and freezing coldness with dampened clothes on rainy days just to
reach Nabunturan town, where a high school was already established.
Majority of Compostela people then could not afford the economic
requirements in sending their children to high school thus, many did not pursue
higher education and just help their parents in the farm and remained educational
frail. Ties scenario became the challenge for then Mayor Pio Galenzoga to take a major
step in bringing education closer and accessible to the people of Compostela and their
clamour and dream of acquiring high school education became a reality… Thus, On
August 10, 1966, Compostela Central Community High School was established inspired
by the person named Pedro Orata who is the father of barangay high school.
The newly born high school was place under the supervision of Mr. Felipe
Flores, then supervisor of the district of Compostela in which he assigned Mrs. Leonida
P. Garcia, and then Guidance Counselor Coordinator as in charge, who in turned tapped
Mrs. Rosita T. Hinacay as adviser of one section in first year composed of 25, mostly
matured students. Classes were held in the evening after the elementary pupils have left
their classrooms. The kerosene fueled lampa called (petromax) were the only
illumination and witnesses of how difficult high school was attained.
As it continued to grow with the addition of more sections, more teachers
were also reinforced; Mrs. Macaria C. Fajardo, Mrs. Aida Anita and Mr. Crispin Agustin
and Mrs. Aida Flores and Some elementary teachers were asked to handle other
subjects.
During those times, the teachers relied on the P10.00 tuition fee of the
students for their honorarium and for other expenditures of the school. The collection
COMPOSTELA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Was enough to meet their needs and that of the school that increasing the fee would
drive the student’s home and would lead them to stop schooling? So, the teachers then
had resorted into sponsoring benefit dance (Sayawan), where they served as primary
dancers in 1969, Compostela Central Community High School was already a complete
high school.
Changed were noted in the school: Mrs. Carlos Apog was added in the
rank of teachers, classes were shifted to day sessions and it was turned over to the
management of Barangay Poblacion, hence, became Compostela Barangay High School.
Upon the exit of Mrs. Leonida P. Garcia in 1977 who was then assigned in another
district, Mrs. Juanita V. Ocampo became the assistant principle, she initiated the house-
to-house campaign during enrolment period and this approach was effective, that
student’s population increased. After three years, she was promoted as Division
Nutrition Supervisor. After serving the school for ten years as a appointed as the Head
Teacher thereafter.
During her administration, Late afternoon Classes (LAC) was opened
which started classes at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon to address the plight of the
laborers in the nearby banana plantation giving them opportunity to finish their high
school education. More elementary teachers were hired to argument the instruction
and rescheduling were made since classes in the Elementary School ended at 4:30 in the
afternoon. LAC started at 5:00 in the afternoon and ended at 9:00 in the evening. This
time they didn’t use ‘Petromax’ anymore because electricity is already servicing the
community.
In 1984, Mr. Alexander Quiba became the fourth school principle, as
appointed by Ramon Y. Alba, then Schools Division Superintendent of Davao Province.
He together with Mr. Poteciano Garcia Sr., then PTA President initiated the transfer of
control of the Barangay High School to the Municipal Government. Thus, with the
approval of then Mayor Senen B. Suarez, It became Compostela Municipal High School;
He left CNHS in 1986 because she was promoted as Principal of Davao Provincial High
School.
By then, its population reaches to more than 800 students. The fifth in
line of the administrators was Mrs. Gertrudes B. Diwara. Gradually, she took the
initiative to pull-out from the Compostela Central Elementary school compound and
utilized rooms under the Grandstand and its bleachers were improvised as temporary
classrooms. More teachers were admitted. This time, a three-hectare land properly was
finally titled and apportioned to the high school.
It was a breakthrough of unprecedented donations from the municipal
and provincial government, international organizations like the USAID as well as fromn
the PTA support, Subsequently, several school buildings were constructed, Moreover, it

was ion this time that the law was enacted to nationalize all municipal high schools, the
Republic Act No. 6655 otherwise known as “Free Secondary Education Act of 1988”.
Nationalizing the school was the pivotal point and a springboard to be
assigned significantly recognized. It became the most solace relief for Compostela
Municipal High school to become Compostela National High School Principal II.
By then, Students population had rapidly increased to the point of oversized
classes, shortage in classrooms and teachers. Being a newly legislated National High
School, collection of fees was discourage yet to solve the current state, he recognized
the PTA to argument support for the school. In effect, Seventeen teachers were hired to
meet the classroom instruction needs of more than one thousand five hundred
students.
Through the support and assistance from the parents, local government,
provincial government and office of the representative, additional buildings were built
and constructed utilized as classroom, offices, library and laboratory which were
imperative in molding the youth of Compostela.
On 1996, In line with the Department of Education Culture and Sports and
won in the National search for the best implementer of DepEd’s Health and Nutrition
Program in 2004. Like Mrs. Macaria Fajardo, four former mentors and also resident of
the municipality of Compostela who were promoted and assigned in different high
schools in Compostela Valley as School heads returned to Compostela National High and
assumed office as School Principals. In the person of Mr. Eugenio A. Apria, Mrs.
Anselma S. Campos, Mrs. Defina B, Letegio and Dr. Geraldine O. Perez. From 2005 and
recently.
All of them have contribute greatly to what Compostela National High have
become like engaging several stakeholders to construct school buildings and classrooms
like the KALAHI foundation, the USWAG building courtesy of former governor Arturo
“Chiongkee” Uy and the HE building courtesy of Hon. Amatong, Former representative
of the 2nd district of Compostela Valley; hiring new breed of teachers who are globally
competitive, creating special programs like the Special Science class and Interventions
like Open high School program and summer classes.
Also, giving full support in different activities and eventually Compostela
National High School won in different curricular and extra –curricular activities from
division up to National level, in 2012, Super Typhoon Pablo hit Mindanao and
Compostela suffered the worst. School buildings and properties were destroyed.
The school was a haven of several displaced families for months. Classes were
opted into two sessions until evacuees returned to their homes. On October 2016, Mr.
Ritchell E. Cruz, the school Principal Manat National High School in Nabunturan was

component of the Philippines 2000 advocacy of the Ramos Administration, Hon. Rogelio
Sarmiento, former representative of the Davao Province, initiated the breeding of
Computer Literacy Program which is Computer aided instruction and making
Compostela NHS as the Regional Pilot School of the Future, the first of its kind in terms
of academic instruction in Region XI.
On September 6, of the same year, the first School of the Future Computer
Training in Mindanao was launched. Furthermore, during the last part of his
administration, Mr. Ignacio E. Maety, Recommended to bring secondary education to
the doorsteps of the barangays to meet the pressing demand of the public officials, this
paved way to the opening of secondary schools have offered equally important
education services.
It is deemed assured that there is no reason for illiteracy to exist now
that schools have reached their neighborhood, after the retirement of Mr. Ignacio E.
Marty, Mrs. Cresencia Lamoste became the officer in charge for almost a year followed
by Mrs. Rosita Paican, as, designated by the Division office who rendered service for
more than a year. Subsequently, Mrs. Macaria Fajardo was promoted and was assigned
as the new school principal.
Compostela NHS then already served more than three thousand students
and had 88 teaching and non-teaching force including in the annexes. It expanded its
services through the continuation of its late afternoon classes, skill training program,
literacy remedial classes, and non-formal education assisted by the municipal
government. Compostela NHS then became an entry School Principal IV, Mr. Cruz’ arrval

organization strong like a molave tree and a stand like boulders in the coast, and the
true fruit of it success is bestowed upon the thousands of graduates who become
successful in their respective choices of careers. Compostela NHS has produced
thousands of graduates who became professionals in different fields like in the field of
