The Ludlum Model 3-IS series includes two models of intrinsically safe radiation survey meters for use in hazardous areas: 1) The Model 3-IS is a general-purpose meter that can be used with a variety of external detectors for gamma exposure rate, neutron dose rate, or alpha/beta/gamma contamination surveys. 2) The Model 3-IS-1 has an internally mounted GM detector for exposure rate measurements between 0.1-10 mR/hr. Both models have features for battery life, calibration, response time, and are approved for hazardous environments according to various standards.

DESCRIPTION
The Model 3-IS series is an intrinsically safe radiation survey
meter that can be used in areas where explosion safety is a primary
concern. This meter is available in two models; a general purpose
Model 3-IS which can be adapted to a variety of external radia-
tion detectors for gamma exposure rate and neutron dose rate or
alpha/beta/gamma contamination surveys, and the Model 3-IS-1
which is outfitted with a single, internally mounted GM detector
for performing exposure rate measurements.

COMMON SPECIFICATIONS
METER DIAL: 2.5” (6.4 cm) arc, 1 mA analog type

LINEARITY: Reading within 10% of true value with detector connected
AUDIO: Built in unimorph speaker with ON/OFF switch (greater than 60 dB at 2 feet)
CALIBRATION CONTROLS: Accessible from front of instrument (protective cover provided)
HIGH VOLTAGE: Adjustable from 400 - 1000 volts
THRESHOLD: Fixed at 40 mV ± 10 mV
RESPONSE: Toggle switch for FAST (4 seconds) or SLOW (22 seconds) from 10% to 90% of final reading
RESET: Push-button to zero meter
POWER: 2 each Procell PC 1300 “D” cell batteries (housed in sealed compartment, externally accessible)
BATTERY LIFE: Typically greater than 2000 hours with alkaline batteries
CONSTRUCTION: Cast and drawn aluminum with beige powder-coat
TEMPERATURE RANGE: -4°F to 104°F (-20°C to 40°C)
SIZE: 6.5” H x 3.5” W x 8.5” L (16.5 x 8.9 x 21.6 cm)
WEIGHT: 3.5 lbs. (1.6 kg) including batteries
