Activity Report:: Water Audit

The students conducted a water audit that included calculating average home water consumption, identifying acts of water waste, suggesting conservation steps, and proposing an innovative water monitoring tool. They calculated their average monthly water usage as 26.67 cubic meters. Common water wastes identified were leaving taps running while brushing teeth and not repairing leaks. Suggested conservation steps included turning off taps while brushing and fixing leaks. An innovative digital tool was proposed to monitor shower water usage in real-time and encourage reduced consumption.

INTRODUCTION :

Water auditing is a method of quantifying water flows and quality

in simple or complex systems, with a view to reducing water usage
and often saving money on otherwise unnecessary water useThe
principal purpose of a water audit is to accurately determine the
amount of un- accounted for water (UAW) in a water system. After
completion of a water audit, system managers can identify and
target system elements for specific conservation practices to
reduce water loss and un-accounted forwater..

PICTURE OF INNOVATIVE TOOL

INFORMATION ABOUT THE INNOVATIVE TOOL

1) Innovative tool above is a plumbing attachment that
provides up-to-the-second reports on how many liters have
been sprayed in the shower.
2) It is powered by water (naturally) and can be installed in
the shower or the sink.
3) It will provide a digital readout of amount of water that
have been used.
