M.tech .Tech Synopsis

This document provides an abstract for an M.Tech dissertation exploring opportunities for mini hydro power generation using Heron's fountain. The project aims to design a system that generates continuous water flow without external force to turn a hydraulic turbine and generate electricity. It will involve building a prototype, selecting an appropriate turbine and generator, and developing a MATLAB simulation. The project aims to develop a renewable energy solution for power generation in areas without dams or rivers.

Exploring Opportunities in Hydro Power Generation with Heron’s Fountain

SYNOPSIS FOR M.E. DISSERTATION

8. Abstract:

In conventional hydro power generation, water reservoir is constructed to ensure

continuous water supply. However, the water coming out of such hydro power generating
stations is hardly recycled. In this project we are going to explore the design of mini hydro
power plant for the regions where the dam, river, streams, lakes any other source is not
available. For this we will make the use of Heron’s Fountain. Many years ago a physicist
Heron of Alexandria designed a fountain which works without any external force. This
fountain will supply us the flow or power to rotate the hydraulic turbine which will coupled
to the power generator which will charges the bank of batteries connected across. The
emerging water from the turbine will be re-circulated towards the water storage tank by the
principle of Modified Heron’s fountain.

9. Introduction:

Standalone small (Pico Hydro and Micro Hydro) hydro power generation have
started gaining popularity in remote areas. These generations require small
water head and are much more compact. They also allow use of various types of
generators. The only dependency is availability of continuous water head for
their operation.

In conventional hydro power generation, water reservoir is constructed to ensure

continuous water supply. However, the water coming out of such hydro power
generating stations is hardly recycled i.e. fed back to the reservoir and used for
power generation over and over again. Ram pumps are often being used now
days to make an efficient system.

A Perpetual Motion Machine would be the ultimate requirement for best use of
water resources available across the globe. Heron’s Fountain is a near solution
for construction a near Perpetual Motion Machine for maintaining a continuous
water head. Suitable turbine and generator selection shall be a challenge for
constructing a small Hydro Power Generation based on Heron’s Fountain.

10. Relevance:

In conventional hydro power projects once water used is not been recycled for
the further generation and also the hydro power generation is available in only
dam or river regions. In this project we are going to make hydro power plant on
the small scale using the Heron’s fountain. Without any external force we will
generate the power without any dam, stream and river. This project will be used
for one house or on large scale for industries. In this project we will modify the
mini hydro power plant. The cost of this project is depending on the type of
turbine and alternator we will use for the power generation and it will be varies
with the amount of power generation. This project is very important as we will
reuse the water this projects turns into renewable energy sources. Nowadays the
coal, petrol and all the natural gases storage is been decreasing rapidly so it is
very important to research other energy sources or use more renewable sources.
So we will use this for industry as well as domestic use also.

11. Literature Review:

[1] Mini Hydro-Electric Power Plant with Re-circulated Water Power Source-
the main idea of the project is came from this paper in this paper the water
recirculated from the drainage system of the building. The design of mini
hydro pump is been referred from this paper the advance research in the
hydro power plant is the hydraulic ram pump but these are of very small
volume means not much water will re-circulated.

[2] Heron’s Fountain Demonstrator- firstly Heron’s fountain has been founded
by a physicist named Heron by Alexandria. The similarities between
Heron’s fountain and the modern systems and allow the continuous use of
fountain by the focused on experimental setup which exemplifies the
principle of non-isothermal flow.

[3] Heron’s Fountain as A Hydraulic Machine- Heron’s Fountain is a hydraulic

machine that works with its own energy without any external force. The
construction and the working of the Heron’s fountain as hydraulic machine
is been described in this paper.

[4] Review of Optimal Selection of Turbines for Hydroelectric Projects- Due to

increased demand of electrical energy and its economic, social and
environmental benefits the Hydro power is important contributor in the
energy in future. The general concept of a hydroelectric power plant to
convert the kinetic and potential energy of the water moving with some
speed into a usable form of energy. For the cost effective and efficient
project we need to study the optimal selection of hydro turbine. The
objective of this paper is to review the selection of hydro turbine for
hydroelectric project.

12. Proposed Work:

 Methodology:-

Block Diagram

Fig. no. 1

This project work focuses on building a free energy generator or a near

Perpetual Motion Machine. The hardware prototype model can be divided
into two parts, wherein first part is to generate a continuous water head with
the help of Heron’s Fountain. The second part is obvious, to use this water
head to generate electricity. This part will be based on water flow rate of the
Heron’s Fountain and involves comparative study of turbines for Hydro
Power Generation and selection of the appropriate. Also, this model will be
built for standalone operation. Hence a battery charging unit will assist to
store electrical energy

 Objectives of Proposed Work

o To build a prototype model to demonstrate Heron’s Fountain

o To select appropriate turbine for the flow rate determined by Heron

Fountain
